Great video showing different approaches at removing the appearance of scratches from paintwork. The IPA wipe was great, as it showed there was an element of fill used in all the products. The demonstration showed the filling properties of Super Resin, but it does have an element of cut too. The scratches took a several of hits with the machine, and even then were not all gone - so are unlikely to ever come out by any hand applied product. But for less severe paintwork defects the polish will remove them - not just fill them - remove them. There is a persistent myth that super Resin Polish is all filler with no cut, this is not the case. It removes what it can and fills what it can't (to a point). As a half way house, our Scratch Remover Kit would have been interesting to try. Diminishing abrasives as used in a machine applied compound, but developed to work when applied by hand (the formulation will not work well with a machine, use Rapid Renovator for that). Next time your neighbour gets a similar scratch, get in touch and we'll send you a kit to try.

That's great, thank you... I have an upcoming video to record (tomorrow) on a test bonnet.... I've already done a small area, and as you say, it does provide some cut. Even after a panel wipe, there is a slight colour difference where the cutting agents have restored some of the colour.... Will let you know once that video is done 👍

@@TheDetailingSpace Great stuff. Are you using the new or old version of Super Resin Polish for your bonnet tests? The bottle in the video above is the old version (pre-2012) . you can tell which version you have by the label. The old one in has a solid red Autoglym square, the new one has a fade from dark red to lighter red running from top left to bottom right. In 2012 we tweaked the formulation to give longer durability (filler stick about for longer), improved water repellency (more like a wax), virtually no dusting and an improvement to the colour enhancing properties of the polish.

Haha, other neighbour (Dan) bought a new car and declined any paint protection stating - and I quote "nah, I'll just get my neighbour to do it 😂".... Funnily enough as I was handing this back over, Dan pulled up (his drive is adjacent to mine) and he joked to owner of this car that he waits for me to start cleaning mine, then he "pretends" to clean his knowing I'll probably help. Funny thing is, earlier that day he nicked my pressure washer as his suddenly died 😂🤣

Hi Matt. Enjoy your videos and watched quite a few now. I've never been into cleaning my own car never mind detailing it. Being a PH driver its easier for me to take to hand wash guys but theres swirls all over my car so wanted to start doing it myself. Mines a white Superb L+K, not sure if it makes a difference in regards to products. I have some of the SRP, never used it because dont know how to. Would I need to clay my car before using the SRP? If so, would you recommend the carbon collective exfoli block? Just seems easier for a noob like me to use instead of the clay bar. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. Ash
@TheDetailingSpace
@TheDetailingSpace 3 жыл бұрын
The "problem" with clay bars (and blocks) is that there's a chance of marring the paint, which is why I usually only clay if I know I'll be machine polishing too.... A simple tar remover and iron remover should get your paintwork about 90-95% containment free, and that will be good enough for SRP or any hand polish you choose to go with.

I've often wondered why can't you get a can of spray paint (Color matched) and spray a light coat over the deep scratches. Wait a couple of days, or a week for it to dry, then clay bar and polish it like you would. Wouldn't that work to hide the deeper scratches?
@TheDetailingSpace

You'd never get a perfect colour match
@as680783
@as680783 2 жыл бұрын
To add to Matt's point. Spray paint applied straight onto the scratches would require several layers. You'd also need to sand the stratch down properly and prime the local area before laying down paint and lacquer. Paint straight onto the top of paint would simply blister and peel off within a few months at best. The best quick alternative would be a touch up pen and then - as you stated - let it cure for a few days prior to claying and polishing.
