You have saved me from my paralysis. I wish I had seen this video before all the others which had me buying Meguiar's 105 and 205 and only then reading about the problems with using 105, the dusting, etc. With you telling us beginners that we can do a good job with Griot's Complete Compound, I bought it, used it with a green foam pad, and wow, the car looked great. I'm a raw beginner, 81 years old, detailing a 2000 BMW M Coupe in Imola Red. Of course, I preceded the polishing with a foam cannon, two bucket wash, Iron X, Nanoskin cloth for claying and ended with Turtle Wax Ice Seal and Shine. Yesterday I brought my car to the local BMW's dealer Octoberfest and got lots of compliments, although the compliments might have been for the relatively rare M Coupe, except if I had brought it in prior to the 9 hours it took me to detail it, I don't think I would have gotten as many compliments. Anyway, thanks for all your down to earth videos and your NY or NJ accent makes me feel like I'm home again after living in semi-rural PA for over 50 years.

I love this guy! Love that east coast accent. Not only have a learned how to do paint correction for my older cars, but I've also enjoyed watching the polishing- so therapeutic!! Thanks Scott!! My 2006 midnight blue metallic Odyssey minivan went through a repaint because the crappy Honda paint was peeling off the hood and roof. I still see other cars of the same year and color around my neighborhood painstakingly continue to drive around their vans and don't want to spend the cash in having their family-hauler repainted. We have been victims of Honda's crappy water-based paint that they unfortunately used on their vehicles. Luckily I had a local Maaco repaint my van for less than $2500 with stellar results (far more less expensive than 10K from other shops). Now I want to take the steps in caring for my van and the paint. This is how I want to do it. I owe it to the old van who's taken me and my family around places for many years. I don't have a garage and it sits outside all the time in the sun, but hoping a little polishing and correction will help it with being out there against the elements. I plan to do a clay-bar first after a car wash before I do the correction/polishing. I'm putting together a wish-list of the equipment I need to buy before tackling this weekend-warrior project.

I’ve been a car buff for the majority of my life. At 63 years old I’ve owned Audi’s, Chevrolet’s, Subaru’s and Porsche’s. The last time I used a buffer on my car was in the early 90s. The buffer I attempted to use then was a one speed monster and the bonnet was attached to the buffer with a band of elastic. A real POS. I got tired of seeing the swirl marks in my Glacier White paint on my current car, so I ordered a buffer through Amazon with Griots Complete Compond. I watched your video. Thank you! The car looks amazing. No more swirl marks. The days of hand waxing are over for me.

I would like to add, being a beginner myself. Make sure you wash the area your going to be correcting / polishing 1st. I would even recommend using a clay bar, or clay mitt type of thing to remove surface particles before polishing. If your going to be doing this outside, as most of us will, you will get better results in the shade. Direct sunlight in the summer will make your panel very hot, and evaporate the lubricant in the compound faster, making the compound harder to take off.

I was lucky to get that fear out in high school in autobody repair class. The one important rule I was taught was when running a buffer or polisher to make sure the pad is running off the edges and not into them. Keep the pad in motion like scott said. Oh, and dont use too much product in one shot. That stuff will fling everywhere and cause you more clean up than you need. Scot I love your channel, I've learned some great thing from you. @@budlight2969 at that point you have to repaint the area or the car depending how bad it is. The point of polishing is if you have clear coat to polish since that’s what holds the scratches and the swirls and it’s what makes your paint look shiny and hold paint protection.

I want a great looking shine on my car, but I don't know what the f*** I am doing. I bought a cheap orbital buffer, the pads recommended in this video, and a couple of bottles Griots. The results were awesome. You really cut out the BS and make it easy to get started on this journey. I'm a technical consultant (IT), and this kind of tech baffles me. It's like a completely different language. Thanks for breaking out down, man!

Just read the labels, use good products. It isn't rocket science. Scott is right, don't listen to those who claim to be a "pro". Everyone has their opinions about different products. Go read reviews and pick out a few products. If you are good with your hands you will be a "pro" in no time. Wash, clay bar, polish and wax or seal. There ya go....your a "pro" now.

Thanks, Scott. I had never used a polisher before but I followed your directions and got amazing results on my 2016 race-red Mustang. It now glows like a hot poker!
