When you cut a square patch out of the floor, hold the cutting tool at an angle so the piece can sit on something when you replace it rather than dropping straight through. Do this on two opposing edges, no need to do all four.

Hey, Wouldn't it be better and less hassle to just isolate the radiator by just turning off both the valves ? That way if there is ever a very cold spell the owner still has the option to put the radiator back on in the room instead of having to have it refitted again. Great vids BTW - Keep em coming!

Quick question, is it possible that capping off like this will stop the feed to another radiator in the house, if they run in sequence, so to speak. Without knowing whether this is the case, is it OK to join the 2 pipes together rather than capping them off. Thanks.

I'm no plumber, but I think radiators are plumbed so each one draws separately from a hot water loop (and discharges separately back to return loop to the boiler) so removing any one radiator should be fine. I recently removed one and didn't have a problem with other radiators.
@stEVEN_SMARTER
@stEVEN_SMARTER Жыл бұрын
You're missing something, the point he capped these pipes were at a point where these pipes are only feeding this single radiator. You'll find these pipes are tee'd off the flow loop and return loop further back. If you capped it there you're correct, you would then potentially cap the flow to radiators further in the system.

Top tip: When cutting squares out of the floor hold the cutting tool at an angle away from the cut so when the piece goes back it sits in position rather than falling thru. No need to do this on all four sides, just two opposing sides.

@anthonydevaney7577
@anthonydevaney7577 5 жыл бұрын
andrewjakeways153 two separate pipes. The flow is a loop and the return is another loop. At points in the loop the flow tees off and basically terminates into a radiator. The exit is basically a tee into the return. So if you cap one of those tees off it effectively becomes a lay-by where a small amount of water parks up but can’t go further. Proper name for the lay-by is a dead leg. Hope that’s as clear I I intended haha

The connecting pipe will this be left in the floor (with water in it)... thanks for any advice.

Dead leg - best practice question: I have carefully chiseled out just enough of the cement floor around the two copper pipes where the old radiator used to be and have capped off the ends with compression fittings within the cement floor. As these are now "dead legs" and the central heating water can no longer loop through and circulate through these legs. what will eventually happen to them over time? Will they not eventually "rot" / corrode and cause my CH water to start leaking into the flat below? Is what I have done standard practice or do I need to trace the pipes back to the source and cap them off closer to the boiler? Can anyone offer any sound advice on this question. Don't particularly want to chop up the rest of the floor but will do whats best.
