Watch us update our old rad to a contemporary, vertical radiator. In this video, we demonstrate how to move a radiator!
Things to consider:
If buying a new radiator, make sure to check the BTU output required for heating your room so that you buy a radiator fit for purpose.
The delta rating of your heating system will also be crucial in ensuring you buy a radiator that will heat your space.
If you’d like a further video explaining this, make sure to comment below!
Vertical Radiators:
These often have an inlet and outlet, whereas typically it does not matter which way round a traditional horizontal rad is placed. It is essential you plumb the inlet feed to the correct side of the vertical radiator due to internal features allowing the water to heat the entire length of the radiator.
Fitting:
If you have any questions on how we moved our radiator, make sure to comment below!

Could you please put out the links some of the materials used, such as the pvc pipe and bends, etc.

Yes, really good. I don’t know if it was for the purposes of the video to stress about the need for the Superseal inserts on the plastic but I’d of pre fitted the one Superseal with tape covering it before running the pipes to the rad. The pipe I have used in the past is the JG 15BPEX-32499 Push-Fit PE-X Pipe and it doesn’t seem as flexible as the pipe you’re using. Can you give me the pipe grade if it’s different please?

mate do you mind posting links to the fittings and pipe you used/would recommend? Also why not use copper pipe connections like your other video for this particular radiator change? Cheers

Hi mate, I got everything from Wickes, it’s all JG Speedfit in this video. I wanted to try both methods, although both are perfectly fine 👍

Nice, little tip, use silicone spray whenever using plastic, where that’s connecting copper or plastic. Your always taught to never go in dry when making connections. Makes it easier to push them together, but also ensures that it does sit in the correct position. Bit stuff if it’s not broken the seal and floorboards are on top

Hi,I want to replace a radiator and move the location, I have a presurised system if i turn of the boiler and remove the old radiaor would the water in the system strat to leak whenI cut the pipe old exiting pipe? Shoundt I bleed the hole ssytem?

Mine is the same, I drained mine because we had lots of work going on, but I had to refill the system with inhibitor. The other way to do it would be to have all the new pipes fitted & routed, and then “snatch” it. Meaning you cut the old pipe & quickly connect the new pipe, without draining the system. But you would still have to bleed & top the pressure up.

Is it possible just to cap off the old rad? Would that affect the central heating system?

Can you install those type of radiators on plasterboard wall?

You can’t with steel radiators I believe, but aluminium should be fine if fitted with the correct fittings👍

Hi you can do in any type wall , plasterboard wall every 40 cm have wood inside the plasterboard wall , easy way to find them use magnetic in the plaster board to locate the screws so there's where is the wood inside, after just mounting the radiator in the wood internally

Hi, not for this job, just turn your thermostat right down so the boiler doesn’t kick in. I guess you could if you were worried about cables👍

It makes no sense. How did you drain the system before you cut the pipe? that is crucial..:)

I’ve mentioned that our system was drained due to work going on, and that you can “snatch” to avoid draining the system.

Since you’re redoing your house, why are you not installing an HVAC system and a tankless water heater? Why are your walls plastic instead of drywall?

How do you know it isn't? Houses in England are not built from the floorboards up or out of wood like usa 😂😂 And what kind of foundation are you talking about, pad or pile?
