That bearing pushing off trick is a real winner! I couldn't get the brake rotor off so I just pushed the whole thing off together. Once off...about 2 hammer licks and the rotor came off. The hardest part of the whole job for me was disconnecting the ABS line even with the red tab out.

Great video I wished I had known this a couple of years ago about the socket and extension. It would have saved me so much time. I did it the hard way my teacher school of hard knocks after a couple hours fighting we did finally used a socket turned the wheel and victory it was loose replaced both u joints on front axle. One side took about three hours the other about one hour . I guess you could say before and after the learning curve.

There is also a punch tool you can buy for $40 (or so) that threads into the hub mounting flange to hammer the hub out. Here in MI (lots of road salt and rust) I've nearly never seen a hub come out as easily or evenly as in this video.

That works well if it not all rusted up. In Maine we love our salt and calcium on the roads because we feel the need to drive like we belong in nascar in the winter. Most of the time the bearing never fairs well after a fire wrench is used. Keep up the videos. Good job. 😎

If you want to push it out straight and not mess up the housing put a porta-power between the bolt and frame kitty corner of that one and pump while the other turns the wheel against the one with the socket extensions.

I leave the axle nut on and pull the hub with the axle, that way you won't destroy the wheel bearing when removing the hub. Great trick though, much easier than the porta-power. Another thing I have tried on some really stubborn ones was to install an old rotor on the hub backwards and use that 12 lb sludge hammer you were tapping with. :).

have a big big question! So I bought the OTC 6290a puller tool, to remove the wheel bearing hubs in my 2001 dodge ram 2500 cummins 4wd... ok so I used it today and I was wondering.... so the tool pushes the axel shaft deep inside the pumpkin in order to get the wheel bearing assembly out right? Could I break something inside the diferential? I know the axle shaft is pushing against the cross pin, and actually once i removed the axle shaft i notice that the tip or the face of the axle you could see where it was pushing against the pin, is that bad?? is it possible to break something inside the pumpkin using this kinds of tools? my wheel bearing hub was basically glued to the knuckle thats why I used the puller...Is it bad to use this kinds of tools?? Did I mess up my axel shaft ? Thanks, great video by the way!

just out of curiosity what year truck? I do a lot of dodge ram 3/4 and 1 ton balljoints, and all the hub nuts on them are 1 11/16 or at least that's the socket I use and it fits perfect. that trick with the extensions is good, used to use it all the time until I found out snapon makes a tool that replaces that extension, has a hex built into the end so it fits out the bolt like the socket. they even have one for the superduty as well, just fits over the stud. these tools are about as big around as a toonie and solid all the way through. I guess down side, they are like $60 a piece Canadian. whatever works right, I just got tired of using extensions, plus I try to buy special tools when I can, its just I hate combacks on certain jobs like seals. or screwing around when I can do it easier with the special tool.

@Carstuff111
@Carstuff111 6 жыл бұрын
Um, this is not that much stress on the power steering pump.... I have seen trucks bounced off tree stumps and rocks with A LOT more force than this, multiple times, and the power steering pumps survived. I have seen people using their steering to dislodge their trucks from being pinned in place by rocks and tree stumps, and no damage to the power steering. If this bit of "stress" is enough to kill the pump on a Ram, you just gave me yet another reason not to buy one of these trucks ;)
