Thanks for this video, very useful to know in case I ever need to change. Also, good to know that the tank doesn't need to come out to change on this gen of VAG cars to change it!

My neighbor has a BMW and it js like this. I thought man that sucks. But it is better than pulling tank like my 88gti I had. But now I have this 2.slow and got a shit ton of junk in the back seat lol.

I soaked my connecter to and did not understand plug negative now car wont start .since u know a bit what do u think it is it cranks but no start did I ruin the connection or the relay? Thanks

If priming doesn't help, but only completely turning over a few times, then not wanting to continue to run, also fuel pump?

Great video I had to replace the seal Ring on a 04 golf. Only probably I had was tightening my union nut it just spins around.

That is where it’s difficult. Got to hold the pump down and twist that nut. It’s kind of a pain to get started but you’ll get it

What years of gtis have the pump under seat like that?

That arrow I believe, is for a 2nd supply line, which this car doesn't have - so it's capped off. Don't believe it's anything to do with the pumps orientation in the car :)

I see you have mentioned "cabrio" in your description. Do you have any knowledge on the method of replacing the golf 4 cabrio fuel pump? is it located in the same position and is the procedure the same?

The cabrio is an odd one. If its not under the passenger seat then its in the trunk, and you can watch the MKIII fuel pump video.

Yeah thats what it sounds like. Pump cant keep up with the demand of fuel causing the car to die. I would do the fuel filter as well.

So when I was removing the fuel line, the nipple it attaches to unfortunately came with it. Any tips to get it out? Cause the release button on the line isn't helping

Did the same thing. I pressed the release button and used tweezers/pliers to rip the piece out

For MKIV, is the fuel pump identical for both 12v and 24v VR6 models? Or both 1.8T?

DIY Ethan 10-4 I just hope thats what it is. Drove fine the other afternoon then I parked it. Went back to drive it and it just cranked. Can hear the relay near the clutch pedal click when I turn the key. However, the normal hum from the priming of the fuel pump, no sound. The reason I asked on the fuel lines is, it looks like a special tool is needed to release them without breaking them. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

I have a 2002 2.0 and for the life of me cannot find a Schrader valve to test the fuel pressure...can anybody help??

There isn't one. You have to use a specialist VAG adapter for the fitting. VW over-engineering there....

Hey Ethan,help me out man After replacing the pump on my mkIv golf 1.6sr with a brand new one the fuel level displays half of tank or it drops to zero.What can I do?

You need to pull fuel pump back out and make sure float sensor is connected like it should be. If it is connected just pull pump and reinstall and make sure the float isn’t caught on anything

Best way is with a fuel pressure gauge. But you can turn the key and have the fuel pump prime. If you don’t hear it hum from the back then it’s not priming and is probably bad or something electrical is causing it not to prime.

Or if it only starts with start gas into the the air intake and then only lasts for a few seconds before the car dies again

Did you replace with new or used pump? Some times the pump casing can get a crack and cause the symptom you stated. Can also try pulling pump and re seating it.

@@garysmith691 Hello no it didnt work.. the only solution is to always drive with at least a quarter fuel and dont let it get empty..

Hi. Vw polo fuel pump compartment gets flooded when I fill up with fuel but the car runs perfectly and no issues. No visible damage to the fuel line. 😢 What could be the problem?

The rubber gasket seal for the pump casing is missing, or pinched.

You just poke the slotted part with a flat head screw driver and pull.

That is how you do it... Try spraying with some wd-40 to help loosen it up. Once you break it youre kinda screwed

On the cabrio’s the fuel pump is in the trunk!

Yes it will, Just know you have an additional hose that connects to the other side of the tank since we have a driveline the tank has to be around.

@@2ZERO8 I guess my issue wasn't the fuel pump. My car continues to shut off while idle after an hour, and shuts off about a mile or less into a ride.

My issue was a failed crankshaft sensor. I paid $500, for part and labor. 24 miles later...check engine comes on...now I'm taking her back in....oh and I must have made an error with thr fuel pump, because yesterday my fuel Guage read a quarter of a tank left...I went to the pump and only 4 gallons made it in before fuel stopping pumping in. 😒🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I'm really at the point of just getting these things addressed and selling her.
