Those paint marks you see are from the quality control team at the Toyota Plant. They use these to confirm all the bolts are present so no defects occur. The reason I know is because I worked at the Toyota plant in Georgetown, KY as a quality control team leader. I have a 2019 off-road taco and plan on taking my boards off today!

Glad ya posted a DIY video on removal process! I'm short and the running boards/steps make zero sense to me as well! Just a bad design if you ask me!

check your front drivers side tire, it looks like it's starting to seperate on the inside.

I'm looking for a square rock rail to cover up that weld where the step rail once was. Extreme Terrain makes one for the Jeep JK models, but I cant find them for the Tacoma. They look great and don't interfere with your stepping into the truck.

I have mine they cost additional $700 it’s been 5 years the texture covering is chipping in the drivers side. Now to find out how to repair them or just replace the one side

Just put a bolt of the same size in each hole.

Where can I find the plugs? What size did you use?

I just took one of the bolts from the running boards, went to Home Depot and got bolts of the same diameter but only 1/4in long with a flange, added a rubber washer and snugged them up. I believe they were 12mm (but take one with you when you go to make sure).

Same situation I found. They’re totally worthless. I’m taking mine off in a few weeks when it warms up.
