How to remove stuck key 2011 Toyota Tundra Pt. 1

My 2011 Toyota Tundra has a stuck key. My truck has a column shifter. A locksmith looked at it and determined it wasn't the lock or the tumblers etc. So...I took it apart and figured out a quick fix to allow the key to be released. I also found out what was causing this issue where the key would not turn past ACC. This was a really annoying problem considering it would come out if I would back up and straighten the wheels...ended up just being an ignition switch that wasn't making enough contact with the column shifter. I hope this quick in a pinch fix helps some of you. I will be replacing the switch eventually once I can get my hands on one for a reasonable price...the problem is that its part of a harness...so I'm having a hard time finding just the switch online. Anyway Good luck!

Mine did the same thing. I had a vent phone holder by the shifter. The shifter was hitting the phone holder. I took off the phone holder from the vent and relocated it somewhere else 🙏🏼 no need to replace anything. Ty for your video 👌🏼

The other video I watched only showed how to take the lock cylinder out to take it to a locksmith, but there's nothing wrong with the lock. It's just this key lock solenoid. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you you help me out, my key got stuck in the ignition. I didn’t have to do all that you did I just wiggled the thing you said the gearshift.

Good video. While following your instruction, I found out that you don't need to unplug that one connector. With a flashlight and a small a rod or a stick about 5" or 6" long, you can actually locate that switch by looking into the big opening where the shifter moves up and down. Using a rod or a stick, you can push down to unlock it. Another thing I found out too is that if you unplug the battery power, the key can be pulled out too. Then plug fb ''Just though I share this.

I have the same problem in a 2008 and I just did the same thing that this guy did. It seems to be working as it should when disconnecting that cable. I just hope this helps you. This is a 2008 that I have.

And my remote control works fine I don't have any problems but I know one thing I'm going to leave that sucker on plug and it was a pain in the ass

Hey Frank I followed your instructions and I did get the key out but now my "remote stopped working" and it was working fine before I took everything apart do you have any suggestions as to what may have made the remote stopped working thank you so much for answering

Maybe by unplugging the ignition lock it doesn't allow the computer to use the remote? I've not had to use the remote while doing this. I only use this trick as a way to release a stuck key due to the shifter switch not making good contact. So I'd try plugging the ignition lock back in to see if that fixes your remote not working. The part 2 to this video shows how to actually fix the problem I had with the shifter parking switch. Once I replaced that switch then I plugged the ignition lock back in as its intended. I try to explain in the video but that is a safety feature so that you can't turn off your truck while in gear and then have it roll away. So I wouldn't leave it like that. In my second video I show how to repair the issue on the truck in question so the ignition lock can function as designed.
