This video is made as a guideline to show you how to remove swirl marks from your gauge cluster. I did this on my 2001 Lexus GS300 which has the type of cluster that goes completely dark when the car is off, so the swirl marks were VERY visible and annoying, and to top it all off the plastic was starting to get all hazy in certain places. So I fixed it!
I hope this helped you out!
Tools needed & used for this repair:
- Cutting/Buffing Compound: www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G1722...
- Polishing Compound: www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G1922...
- Microfiber Pads: www.amazon.com/Viking-Car-Car...
- Microfiber Cloths: www.amazon.com/AIDEA-Microfib...
Please note that I am not a professional mechanic, nor am I saying that you must do exactly what I say in this video. Perform these repairs at your own risk! Safety first ;)

Two years after you posted this I’m finding your channel. Love your content. I have a 95 camry and I see you have a ~XV10 camry as well. Please keep making videos about the Camry. Just subbed!

Yes indeed! Usually people don't need to with regular clusters but because this cluster is the kind that goes completely black when the car is off, you could see all the scratches on it and it was bugging me. It made it look worn and old. Now it looks shiny and new!

I'm shocked something so abrasive worked so well. I would have been afraid to make it worse. I've tried 3 different plastic polishes with no luck but I do have some Ultimate Compund at the house

Nice job Dude! That came out great. Those gauges are cool how you can’t see them when the car is not on.

Thanks! And yes they are cool. I like them a lot. Lexus did that a lot in the 90s and early 2000s

This looks minty. I wonder if it would work on the cluster on my tractor. Keep up the vids. I watch them all

I've got some stains marks on the plastic gauge cluster of my car..not sure from what..is it for stains on the platic, or stains that have also seeped into the plastic?
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can try this method for that too. If you have stains from something spilling though, before you buff, make sure you clean the surface with either some glass cleaner, or some dish soap and water, or something that will clean off the surface dirt. Then after it's clean do the buffing. Hopefully thus gets out the stains you have!

When you said a lot of elbow Grease, How long are you talking? Just curious how much time to invest before losing this war? I tried once recently and the swirls weren't gone so I figured it wouldn't ever work

Well it took me about 10 min of work with a drill... by hand expect it to be a lot more than that.

I'll keep at it. I have novus #2, PlastX, Meguiar's Plastic Polish and Ultimate Polish and Compound. One of them has to work lol. I normally wouldn't care that much but I bought a Type R with 2000 miles and the previous owner swirled the shit out of the cluster and it's killing me. New plastic is only like $30 but I'm assuming it's a good amount of labor to replace it and I'm not comfortable doing it. I'm really hoping I can polish it out and just make it 50 percent better

I am in the New England area but I'm gonna have to say no to that one. I have a whole lot of things going on right now. Plus I have to do my own timing belt (and headgasket and all other seals) on the GS300 soon. Sorry about that!
