Removing the air dam is one of the most popular modifications people do to their trucks. GM adds these for increased aerodynamics, promote cooling, and to increase fuel economy, while sacrificing ground clearance. Many people choose to remove the air dam and never see any difference in MPG or engine temperatures, myself included. So get out there and remove your air dam!
This video shows the air dam being removed on a 2019 GMC Canyon.
2015-2020 Canyons and Colorado's will be similar.

Thanks for the video and tip about the two downward facing screws. I got the dealer to remove my air dam (was doing other work so easy for them to do) and wondered what to do with them. I do prefer the stance, look and greater ground clearance without it.

I really appreciate the tip about flipping over the two "downward facing screws" and that your video was right to point without any unnecessary chat. The only thing that I would add was that I took 1 7mm head bolt and 4 T15 head screws out of the "waffle" plate. There was one T15 screw in the fender well. But my vehicle is a 2018 so that my be why.

Thanks! This video made it easy. The only problem I had was the two 'difficult' bolts, my low-profile screwdriver didn't want to fit over it due to the clip behind it. A little extra pressure worked wonders, though. It also explained why you said to leave those for last, as the air dam dropped as the screw loosened, instead of the screw pushing up. My truck looks so much better now!

I have a 2021Canyon At4. I was kind of not looking forward to doing it after watching this vid as I felt it would take some time. Turns out the 2021 dam removal has been greatly simplified. Just unscrew 14ish downward facing bolts then pop it off. Only took me 15 minutes. Easy to put back on as well so if you just wanted to take it off for off roading then put it back on for road use is a breeze. Used you ramp idea as well. That took a lot more effort to build lol

Can you take the waffle piece off that is behind the wheel well? Or is that something that would need to stay attached to the vehicle?
@fondupot
@fondupot 3 ай бұрын
It can be removed, but only if you are servicing that area. It give strength to the lower bumper and the wheel well liner. Otherwise, those two pieces will just be flapping in the wind. If you are trying to clear more space for larger tires, there is a procedure you can perform where you trim down the waffle piece and move the screws. Search the coloradofans.com forums for the how to.

It gives more ground clearance in the front of the truck and some thinks it looks better. Its just personal preference.
@rangersmith4652
@rangersmith4652 Жыл бұрын
Seems to me the real right answer is something in between. Aesthetically, the matte black "line" under the bumper provided by the air dam is a good thing; it's just too thick. The dam needs to be pared back to about 1" instead of the 3-4" it comes stock, then put back on. Maybe it can even be trimmed in place.
