How to remove the flywheel on a small engine without a puller.

(I apologize for the quick camera movements, I need a tripod)
Not the preferred method, but if there are no other options and you've gotta get under the flywheel this works for me every time. I've done this with a variety of small engines. Outboards, lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc.

Air impact chisel used against the shaft works great with no chance of damage.

I have 2 different engines needing this and I HAVE a puller I haven’t opened yet, and I’ll try that first because I paid for it:).

Godamnit... it just broke the block in two.. flywheels still on the shaft.. good news is i can now see what the issue was.. loose head bolt.. welp off to the junk yard..

Is there any more info about that type of engine available anywhere? I got one of these off a 1980s snowbuster 220 and I'd like to know more about them

are the flywheels pressed on? because i tried starting a 2stroke mounted on a wooden board with a socket and drill i had my finger on the throttle at full throttle when i started it the drill bit flew off and the flywheel broke off the fly wheel is loose but stuck on the shaft because i have a nut on the shaft i dont know what to do

I don't understand what you just said, but it sounds like you messed it up pretty good. I have never seen a small engine with a pressed on flywheel.

Late response but sounds like you over tightened the flywheel nut. Dont understand how the flywheel is loose when you say it broke off. Flywheels are taper fits on outboard crankshafts. In any case you will have to get that nut removed to take off the loose flywheel. Lots of videos on youtube to remove stuck nuts and bolts. The trick will be to hold the crankshaft still to remove the nut. This is normally done by wrapping a belt around the flywheel (or tool similar to oil filter wrench) to hold it still while loosening the nut. I have had success using a socket wrench and giving the handle a quick smack with a hammer.

The correct way is to use a puller. But I left it at work. This way works fine as long as you hit the hammer square on the center of the crank and don't damage the threads.
