How To Remove The Transmission From a John Deere 425 445 455 AWS

This was the next step in the 455 project and likely the biggest one, I guess other than installing it back in. It's very similar to removing a 2WS transmission, there are just three more points of contact dealing with the steering system, which you don't have on a 2WS.

Yeah, I was however, able to get veritcal this morning after lifting it up and sitting it on the shop bench for the next phase of the job. I messgaed Ron and he said no need to take off the rear case, the axles slide right into the case, so I am psyched about that. Thanks for watching. We are going to have to get together again and work on my 322 project. I need to put the 2 speed tranny in it and maybe we could do a series together.

I am wondering how motivated you may be to put the clutch pack from the old rear end into my 445 that is having problems with the PTO slowing down after engaging.

Does the AWS models fail more often than non AWS versions. Lots of AWS models for sale in my area.

I think if they fail more, it's because there is more to them as far as maintenance. There are at least three more connections on the AWS plus the universal joints and the surrounding parts are all moving in a way that the 2WD is internal and maybe has more longevity. Now, all this is just my opinion, I have no solid evidence, other than general knowledge of each. It might be that people are more apt to sell them, based on higher maintenance costs and the fact you can get a zero-turn instead. But being that zero turns are the spawn of Satan🤣😈, here at Florida Deere, we only mess with garden tractors and SCUT's.😉. All joking aside, an AWS isn't for everyone. They are great for lawn work and some other jobs, but do have limitations concerning using a loader. I will say this, and I will cover this in my next video...or at least a future one. The axle shafts are much longer than a 2WD and that could be a point of failure too. Not saying it is, but could. I know the axle shafts on a 318-332 hardly ever fail and the ones on a 420/430 have a much higher failure rate. And that is because of the distance from one hub to the next. Thanks for watching.
