How to remove Waterpik shower head water flow regulator!!!

Okay so a got several requests on how to remove waterpik water flow regulator. On the newer Waterpik shower heads it may be yellow or red in color and looks like a filter. For this model its located in the joint section of the shower connector. just remove the filter in the back and pop the water flow regulator out.

Thank you so much for this video! The company that owns our complex just sent their goons into every house in the neighborhood and installed new shower heads (without appointments). The things they installed are worse than hotel showers. It takes 5+ minutes to wash the shampoo out of my hair, and since the switch, I haven't even been able to wash it all out 100%. We're literally using MORE water now than before they installed the flow restrictor. We bought a Waterpik shower head and used your instruction to remove (and throw out) the aerator. Our shower is functional again!

Dang, this saved me $50! Thank you so much! I can't believe it only took me 2 minutes to fix my weak water pressure that I dealt with for years. While doing research on new shower heads I saw someone mention just removing the water regulator to increase the pressure, and welp, here we are :)

Thank you so much! I have an on-demand water heater and it will not hold the heat level (it is either too hot or absolutely cold) if I leave the regulator in. Water pressure is not my problem, water volume is. Your video made it easy to take the regulator out of my new shower head and I can shower again!

I was standing in the showerhead aisle at Walmart this morning worried that no matter which one I picked out the pressure wouldn't be any better than the one I have.I decided to check KZfaq to see if maybe I could just fix the one I already have. Our old one is like a whole new shower head. Thank you.

Thank you! I can confirm that there's is a NIGHT and DAY difference in the water pressure after doing this (Waterpik model #xro-733t). At first installation, the water pressure was mediocre, now its amazing. :)

Thank you sir! If there’s one thing I might add, you need some plumbers tape on your faucet where you screw the head on, that’s why it’s leaking and prevents rust aswell

Just bought cheap 551e model, couldn't get any water flow brand new. None of troubleshoot info (of which there was very little) solved it. I took apart the whole thing with the help of this great video (thank you!)..turns out the filter itself was the issue. There was no separate restrictor to pop out! I think it was designed into the filter itself. In the end, I removed the filter altogether. Water flows great now, but I'm sure will gunk up the shower head sooner. Mine is identical in design to the one in this video, except for the separate regulator piece.

I had to remove the limiter AND the filter. Water flow was being restricted by like 90% if either one of them were in. Thanks you for the great video.

Sam here. Just removing the flow restrictor didn't do that much; however, once the filter AND restrictor were gone, the pressure was fantastic.

My waterpik shower head is same as in video, had hubby take the restrictor part out. going to shower now, but suspect we may also need to remove the filter piece like u stated. Hopefully it will like a pressure wash shower if so. BUT my question to you is, does it then cause my (new) waterpik shower head to clog and be ruined? I have hard water here, before fire had a water system, but can so not afford one now so ya, living with hard water. wondering if u know does it wreck shower head to remove the filter?

Tried this w/ a new Waterpik Powerpulse XSS-643E unit. No matter how tight @ the connection w/ properly seated gasket, filter in or out, it still drips from the arm/pipe connection. Glad I got it from Walmart as I foresee this as the first of many returns lol.

You can remove that O-ring visible at 0:50 and it's container and pop out the tiny rubber o-ring with a pin and rinse them both and put them back in and get both your full water pressure back and your water savings from the flow restrictor. Usually you will find little debris particles. If they don't rinse out you can also soak in vinegar for a couple hours.

Great video, thanks. I found that rather than removing the whole thing I cut out 1/2 of the o-ring and put the restrictor back in. Otherwise, I had too much water pressure!

I am unable to unscrew the filter what other method should I use? I am just unable to unscrew it all the way out it will unscrew just a little bit. I was able to do it on a brand new water pick and I had no problem at all removing it.

I just installed a waterpik shower head No water was coming out so I unscrewed it The little white knob part came out & I put it back on without that part & now it seems to work just fine Is there any reason I would need to keep that part in?

If you think leaving the restrictor will save the planet, just think of all the climate frauds who certainly would not put up with restrictors in their own home...remove it.

Has anyone tried removing the flow restrictor AND the filter screen? I'm guessing it might be overkill or, depending on one's water supply, could really gunk up the head a lot more quickly.

I had to remove both to get more pressure. Removing the regulator on its own didn't do anything.

I tried both, the red restrictor is worse for me, removing it is was all I needed. When my condo services the water system, and turn the water back on I get particles in my faucets for a while until it clears. If particles get into the shower head, it could clog it, since you can't disassemble the head completely like an ordinary shower head it could be hard to clean out. The filter is good insurance to keep the head ok if the flow is good with the restrictor only out.
