In this video - Classic Mopar A-body or B-body subframe and drivetrain removal from underneath the car.
It's been a few months now since Dylan's 1974 Dodge Dart Sport rolled into the shop. I for one have no idea where all of this time is going. I should probably be evaluated by a medical professional if that trend continues. In any case, it's time to make some headway on this awesome build. The first step to installing a bunch of new parts (like a 408 stroker Magnum engine, a TKX five speed manual transmission, and a Dana 60 rear axle) is to remove the old parts, so on today's episode, I remove the entire drivetrain and front suspension sub-assembly from the car, just the way the factory installed it (but in reverse.)

So many people give the late A bodies no love. What a shame there is a lot to love. Electronic Ignition, Big bolt pattern,OD manual trans, no leaky vent window, some have lightweight body panels.

Did a slant 6 engine replacement on a 1979 4 door Volare after the original blew. Got a used engine for $150 at the junkyard, ran it until a drunk driver made the rear end shorter. Took a weekend to do the swap with no lift and a rented hoist.

Awesome! Watch your exhaust on the big block going back in. If you’re running headers you will likely have to install drivetrain without, then raise engine off of K to install them. Header fitment is bad enough with a small block… good luck!

Those torsion bars and control arm bolts were simply amazing, I've never seen anything come apart like that in my life.... I'm definitely going to try to get my next project car from California. I wonder if the cars that were/near the ocean are still in that nice of condition. I'm also noticing that they seem to even be a little cheaper to buy from California too, but maybe that's just me. Anyways, good luck on this Duster project, if everything goes ok it might be, dare I say, (gulp) fun?

I had a 74 Dart Sport that came from California and it was the same color. Mine never had the trim piece that went down both sides, otherwise a twin to the one I had. Mine was also disc brakes with big bolts pattern, also had sway bars. For a mid 70's muscle car mine road pretty nice and cornered surprisingly pretty well. I also v8 swapped it in the same manor.

@kart70
@kart70 5 ай бұрын
There was an old mopar magazine article talking about removing the drive train from a mopar and still leaving it mobile. They made four simple wheel assemblies out of wheelbarrow wheels, flat steel, and pipe. The front wheel assemblies were designed like a tall caster that bolted to the bumper mounts. The rear ones were made more straight up and down and bolted to the front spring hanger mounts after removing the rear axle. By mounting these rear wheel assemblies first, this made dropping the k member so much easier because the center of gravity was so much closer to the pivot of these caster assemblies. It was also safer because these casters were firmly attached to the car. You didn't have to worry about the car slipping off jack stands. After the k member was off, the front casters were attached and now you had a body securely attached to mobile stands! I wish I could remember the magazine and the article better but that article has to be a least 20 years old by now. Maybe someone else has a better memory or a better idea? Just a thought anyways.
