I had a 1971 Fastback with that engine. Brings back a lot of memories. Unlike the Beetle engines, changing the oil pump on a pancake isn't exactly an in-the-car proposition.

That type 34, is one rare vw, here in the states. It the best looking air-cooled vw ever made. Just my opinion.

Thank you for the explanation between your 34 and a regular Bug engine ----- once you break it all down ---- looks pretty much the same ----- I like that LITTLE compartment between the engine cover and the engine compartment lid ---- enough room for a Beach Blanket and your favorite suntan lotion ------ will have to see what your machinist says ----- don't know how many miles --- maybe it's just -- ALL -- worn out -- bottom to the top ----- Anyway -- Thank You for the Video -- Have a Good Week -- Rodney

The later Type 3 engine was fuel injected, which was mainly the same except the block was not machined at the factory for the fuel pump. The majority of Beetle engine parts fit the Type 3, but not all.

If you have that much gas in the engine. Check the floats in your carbs. And the jetting

Have you been too the VW meet in Niagara Falls firemen’s park Canada I have seen VWs from all over North America there Vespas also.

I have a chance to buy a squareback thats had the floorpan done and the guy ran out of time has put it up for sale. I only know bugs as my daily for 15 years, should I be wary or is it worth the effort type 3 upgraded driving experience overall?

If it’s an earlier model and a decent complete car definitely worth it. If you can work on a beetle you can work on a type 3.
