That use of the bottom plate and bolt on that like the heater channel . The front firewall. Etc. Is a tip I needed. I just bought a “previous” project where the bottom sections are already cut out. But with that tip I can confidently now start.

Really enjoyed the videos you have posted on the bug, how much time do you think it takes to restore a bug like this? I'm a welder by trade and very good with metal work and fabrication, but I have never taken on a car. I get 4 months off every winter. Do you think a first timer could fully restore a bug in that time?
@callahansgarage29 күн бұрын
Time frame for a restoration is dependent on two things budget and how many other people you're relying on. A 4 month restoration is completely possible with a big budget, and if you're doing your own bodywork, paint and upholstery.

@callahansgarage thanks, 2 people and all welding and bodywork and paint prep myself but painting will have to leave to the pro's

❤ the 1970 Coupe deVille. My dad had one in white and black that I learned to drive in at 12. Dad let me pull it in and out of the garage and move cars around our driveway. Never did need to take driving lessons when I got my license a few years later.

Hi, in another video (Nathan’s garage) YT channel, he said you have to remove the engine to take the body off? Did you not need to remove the engine ? Thanks in advance ❤ from 🇬🇧
@callahansgarage2 ай бұрын
If you had dual carbs those would need to be removed. Otherwise it is not necessary to remove the engine to pull the body.

I have an 88 model like yours. I saw where you removed the tank. What is your plan to remove the pump? It looks like the pump assembly holds up the driveshaft.
@callahansgarage2 ай бұрын
Yes, on mine the driveshafts and transfer case for the pump are all supported by the pump housing that is mounted to the frame. My current plan is to support the transfer case, remove the pump, and fab a new crossmember to mount the transfer case.

You do Great work with your welding with mig. I'm an old fart taught by my dad to do Oxy/Acet welding. When you oxy weld you just "dress" it ( beat and cool ) and there's no grinding and re welding pin holes. I'm probably never be convinced that a row of hard tacks are better than a soft malleable continuous oxy weld. 😉 I suppose tig is the same but it's very fussy.
