Wow this video was a lifesaver, I had no idea that cabinets had a detachable button. A pot detached one of our hinges and it was driving us mad, so glad it was this easy of a fix to reattach! THANK YOU!!

Thanks for this video! I worked at a place that had big thick three ring binder manuals which were always being added to. The way the employees put them away in the cupboard was to shove the doors shut. This caused the doors to pop off and eventually the hinges to pull out as in your demo.

This was a pretty handy tip for sure! I just used JB weld a few months back to do the same thing. Never thought of using PL. I lightly oiled the screw and plate before inserting it, and was able to still loosen the screw to adjust it after. It would have worked perfect but the JB Weld bulged a bit and wouldn’t let the plate slide. Next time I do it I’ll trowel the JB or PL flat, then scoop out the hole with a 5mm straw so there’s no excess to bulge when I thread the screw in.
@TheFunnyCarpenter
@TheFunnyCarpenter 2 жыл бұрын
That interesting, I was thinking about putting some oil on the screws. I’ve used this a few times on the job, I always just make sure the hinge is where it needs to be and then glue it on so that it will never come off.

You can also mark along the existing holes and use cotton balls and a strong glue such as PL and re drill the holes when dried. I've done this in the past and it works great as the cotton balls with glue really grab hold of the existing board :) Great content and looking forward to your future videos! Happy holidays.

nice one, if it works it works. I've repaired these before by drilling out the fricked blown out hole, and using five minute epoxy and dowels. Once dried, pre-drill and set screws and hinge. Makes it easier to do any adjustments later than if the screws were set in adhesive. I'm not sure if you can tap PL lol. Just have to make sure not to drill right through the cabinet of course.

I came across this video when searching for a way to fix my Ikea Liatorp bookcase with glass panel doors. One of the doors fell off during a home move and the hinge ripped straight out and has left a similar type of hole to the one in your video in my bookcase frame. Do you reckon this method would work on MDF? Thanks :)

Would a fix like this work if the broken bracket also took off a chunk of the cabinet frame? Like it ripped straight out the side of the cabinet frame? Could you use this glue to put the broken piece of wood from the frame back on and also fill the screw hole and secure the bracket?

I hear you. But some Ikea cabinets man...no matter how you put together a wall hanging Eket it's always trapezoidal. And it has pivot pin hinges at bottom and top. Aint no adjusting them doors to not be crooked. Freaking four different cleats for this one setup I did recently for a client's office. Two cabs with double doors. Two cubes on the side. All supposed to be "one" cabinet install. Wish he had asked me beforehand, woulda sent him in a different direction. But I got a lot more other handyman work from him so, yeah. Having installed many a Ikea wardrobe, I know the pain of learning how to adjust those hinges. Especially the tall mirrored doors with four hinges. It's a process.

There is a high resistance to begin to open with Blum hinges and their plates only use two very short screws each and chipboard is very crumbly so I always worry that these 2 screws will rip out due to normal use eventually but if they ever do it is useful if you can drill thru into the side wall of the adjacent cabinet and introduce longer screws

I use krazy glue and paper towel, packing it in and soaking in lifts, plane/file down If needed, then re-drill the hole. More work, but then the hinge can be replaced in the future. Also use krazy glue to reinforce the particle board before doing the paper towel, and on new cabinets I will pull the hinge mounts, soak the holes, then reinstall. Keeps this from happening in the first place.

How about a door that won’t close?? The hinges are intact, nothing is cracked or broken, it just re-opens when closed. (Just the one door so my brother’s theory that the kitchen is slanted has been dismissed.) we tried tightening all the screws and it only served to increase the velocity of the re-open and hit me in the head.
@TheFunnyCarpenter
@TheFunnyCarpenter 2 жыл бұрын
I would say you have a free swinging type hinge on your doors. Try putting a self closing hinge on there. There’s a little spring action that snaps close and will hold the door closed.
