When you have a crack in a sprinkler pipe, a riser "T" or you just want to remove a sprinkler head from your line, here is the easy fix.
There are some pretty cool single piece repair kits for this that cost around $5 if you prefer.

Primer doesn't "clean it all, basically). Primer causes a chemical reaction that binds the pvc. Just don't want a diy'er to skip the primer because he bought new, clean PVC.

The single piece repair kits have rubber seals/o-rings that can fail over time; your repair method is a better way to go. I'd use thin nitrile gloves to keep the primer and glue off of my hands and otherwise clean. Other than that, it's a good video. 👍👍👍

I have done this type of repair before, on a corner piece, but I didn't know how to place the middle piece in a straight line. Your technique is to just lift them up to insert the middle piece, smart. It just needs digging more along the pipe lines.

I saw a video made by a Plumber who recommended not using those ratcheting pipe cutters on pvc. He said that sometimes those tools can cause a linear crack down the pvc pipe. He recommended cutting it with a hand saw. I’ve used that ratcheting pipe cutter tool in the past and it worked out great for me. But I am guessing that if you are cutting a lot of pipe, it’s only a matter of time before it catches up to you. And then you have a shit storm on your hands.
@Stashmo
@Stashmo 2 ай бұрын
@@gp9164For thin pvc plumbing, the ratchet isn’t advisable. But it’s fine for irrigation pipe. Also, not sure why he didn’t measure how long the new piece needed to be before cementing the two couplers.

2 things, let it set up for 30-45 minutes before putting water on it and it's a little easier to wrestle in a longer patch pipe - I like to put the couplers on the patch pipe so I'm spending less time on my knees, but either way works.

Quick important note before turning water on... I followed your video and thank you for it, however, if you have a high pressure pipe, the manufacturer states the following: Allow 15 minutes for good handling strength and 2 hours cure time at temperatures above 60 degrees Fahrenheit before pressure testing up to 180 psi. Longer cure times may be required at temperatures below 60 degrees Fahrenheit or with pipe above 3 inches. DO NOT TEST WITH AIR. I made the mistake of testing my fixed pipe within 10-15 minutes, and it did run for about 1 minute before the pipe burst!!! It wasn't a bad damage as I just had to cut a longer length and get new couplings, so now I am waiting 2 hours minimum before I test my fixed pipe under pressure.

My leak is coming from underneath the driveway concrete, I'm assuming the line runs across the driveway 😕!
@PilotJon
@PilotJon Жыл бұрын
Oh that’s brutal! There is a tool you can use to run a new hole from one side of the driveway to the other. It’s really inexpensive also. It uses water psi from a yard hose. My fear and the reason I won’t publish that, is if it doesn’t go smoothly (large aggregate) you could create a hollow space under the driveway and that would later possibly cause a cave in, though likely minor it’s a tough job
@magichands6319
@magichands6319 3 ай бұрын
Check for a spare run of PVC next to the original run under the driveway. It should stub out close to where the original one comes out from under the driveway. This is what I learned when I had my entire driveway replaced. The concrete guys said this is a common practice in case the original line goes kaput! Made sure I had a spare under the new driveway and capped off each end on about a 3” protruding stub.

Wow. You got this done but many mistakes. Never use a saw to cut. Buy a PVC pipe cutter. Inexpensive. The saw might crack the pipe and you won’t see it. Primer only good for 10-15 seconds. Why put on the pieces that weren’t ready yet? Always put glue on every primed surface. Precut everything and mark the fittings with a permanent market so you know exactly how the pieces fit before priming and gluing and to align after fitting. Twist on then hold each piece for 5-10 seconds. The primer and glue softens the plastic and they weld together. Not really glued… I mean I woukd clean hole better too before working. After gluing let the pieces weld together at least 10 minutes before turning the water back on. I’d grade this video a D at best. Too many mistakes
