Great video! My employer threw this out as "broken". Watched your video, cleaned the disc reader, and now I have a blu-ray player for free!

This video and the comments about LG390 helped me to repair mine, too! I used a LCD/LED screen cleaning fuel to clean the lenses. Now its working again. Thanks to all of you.

Great Help. Had my lil own problem, I droped BD player. I tried two catch it but instead bearlely touched my hand and the second hit was on the floor. Been weeks trying to fix it and even though I fixed the loose things and even krazied glued broken parts and it was a hassle putting it back to its right full place, it still wouldn`t play any disc then i finaly ended up watching this video. Tried the first solution two times and finaly worked, thank God!!!! I am so happy, saved some money and fixed the Magnavox BD player thanks to this video. Thanks for posting this! I was having problems with discs not loading and would get the Check Disc error frequently. After watching your video I was able to take my player apart and clean the lens. My player works perfectly now. Thanks again for posting!!

I have an LG390 blu-ray and I was getting a "no disc" message. Your video inspired me to open up my player and give it a try. The LG390's disc drive is enclosed in a metal box so there was a little more work to get to the lenses, the face cover had to come off to open the disc drive box. I used a damp (water) q-tip and then polished with the dry end, the lenses looked perfectly clean to start with but I cleaned them any way. I partly reassembled the player and voila it worked I did not touch the pots. My favorite part of the video was "and she whsipered "Tv's not on."" Thanks

I was already in the market for a replacement of my LG BD660 when it started acting up like this. Watching your video at the beginning made me laugh when after you clean the laser it still did not work. But when you started tweaking the 3 potentiometer and made it work, I immediately open my BD660 and did exactly what you did and OMG! it worked. Now I have a new working player. I was looking to buy another one which I couldn't really afford but after watching your easy video and followed what you did and lucky for me just by cleaning the lens and with a qtip and some white wine vinegar my blu ray started playing the discs again! while I was there I gave it a bit of a spring clean with qtips to get all the dust from inside - you have saved me £60-70 so thank you for taking the time to put this on you tube, very helpful - Nicky

thanks so much for this video! my panasonic player wouldn’t read blu rays anymore, it would only read DVDs. Cleaning didn’t work for me, but twisting the potentiometer labelled BD counterclockwise worked! Saved my player from the recycling 😁

I think that is an adjustment for gain, turns up the laser power. You want to move it up just a little bit. Used to work in a repair shop some years ago, some players had adjustments and we could sometimes fix them this way.

Yes, yes, Yes. My blu-ray dvd player quit playing last night with an Error message. I watched this video and "voila" it's working again. I have to have two dvd players; one for the living room and one for my bedroom. I watch my BBC videos in my room. Thank you so much!!

Awesome, you've saved people heaps of money. Of course the manufacturers will tell you it's too dangerous to do it yourself, but they charge to bloody much to repair. I'm going to try this on my bothers lg dvd player

There is a potentioner you adjust two screws . You need to measure resistance . You only turn the screw barely a hair to lower resistance so beam gets more laser ligh through the lense. You need to have it unplugged and use a multimeter. Ive done this on xbox 360's when they dont read disc. You get dirty disc error. Something similar on bluray would mean no read . Watch a xbox 360 dirty disc error fix. Laser diodes are the same principal.

Thanks for the video, I fixed my Philips BDP3000 with this, it played no disc at all. I cleaned the lens, after that some dvd:s worked. After I adjusted the middle potentiometer clockwise some 90 degrees, only blu-rays worked. And somewhere in the middle everything worked.

Great , I bought my BD550 3 years ago. I used it 4 times only. Yesterday I had this reading error when trying to insert DVD. I fixed potentiometers and then all 's working fine . Thanks you for all !!!!!

THx it worked for my Samsung BD Player adjusted middle then right both 1/8 to 1/4 turn both clockwise.. took 3 attempts but now it plays Blu rays once again..THx a Million

good job, I think those 3 adjustments are tracking, focus and gain. gain is laser power.

I would take off the cover and play a disc to try to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. Could be a simple fix.

I have this same LG blu ray player and it just started giving us the disc error. I am going to try this tid bit of work and see if it will do the trick. Ours is a few years old and has not been cleaned, I do have a lens cleaner disc but will try this and see if it works as it did with you. If not we will just invest in another one as they are not that expensive now!!

This is great - I was lucky, mine worked after the first step of cleaning the laser. I noticed the Pot thingies needed a specialized tool on mine - there were very small and Im not sure what kind of screwdriver head would fit them. Luckily I didn't need to adjust them this time. Thank you for saving the landfill and my wallet.

I would like to add something to this: I had a similar problem, or so i thought, where my LG BD551-k would accept a disc, try to spin it, but would almost immideately make a scratching/spinning sound, as if it dropped the disc back into its tray or something, then stop spinning, and try again. I opened it up, and found that the part that holds the disc in place from the top had come loose, and would spin assymetrically, causing the disc to hit the tray and the surrounding plastic, thus making the sound i heard. I found out that the top part that holds the disc in place (Can be partially seen at 2:54 in the middle of the screen, where there are 3 oddly-shaped holes) had popped out of its 'slot'. I was able to put it back in by centering it and turning it while pushing it gently, but it would always pop out again once i would try to run a DVD. So my solution was to jam a folded piece of paper in-between the top cover, and the plastic cover (The one at 2:54 with 4 holes in it) on top of the aforementioned part. This made it so the part that, before, would pop out of its slot, didnt have enough room to pop out anymore. My unit is now running again. I dont know if my solution is a good or a lasting one, but it works for the moment at least

Where exactly are the pots? I can't seem to locate them. My model is also an LG so I would guess they are probably in a similar place to yours.

What tool did you use to adjust the pots? If I'm looking at the right things, they're tiny! I can't find a screwdriver small enough!

Would this work the same if the problem is that the player won't read blu-ray discs, but non blu-ray play fine? It used to work for blu-ray and it is a Panasonic Blu-ray, it just refuses to read anything blu-ray. I've tried brand new discs so I know it's the player and not the discs. Thanks

Any ideas on how to do this? I can't get the front part of my LG BD 640 off to get the drive out and play around with it.

I'm going to try this on our Sony BDV N5200W; we've had it a bit over a year and it took a giant crap-it won't recognize any disc at all. Tried a disc player cleaner, and no dice. Hope it helps.

if you have a blue ray dvd player there are two laser one for the dvd one for the blu ray. You need to do procedure for booth

Man I hope this works! Bought 2 refurbished LG Blu-ray players off eBay. All they do is read read read then says disc error. I will try this fix and then report back here.

really should have a service manual to see how to do that but I'm not sure you could buy one and they are expensive anyway. I know some OEM manuals are $40 or more.

a lot of todays players will not play burned disks, but from the sound of it the lazer base is not sliding smooth, or jamming, just by moving the reader you unjamed it. congrats

UPDATE: Weird thing. It works, except it won't play any discs from 20th Century Fox, Warner, or Disney......but will play all others. Very strange.

My DVD Blue Ray player is having this problem. First off, when I put in a Disc that's a Blue Ray, it makes these sounds that I'm worried about. 2nd, when Its done with those sounds, THERE IS NO SOUND COMING OUT FROM THE SPEAKERS! The DVD's work fine but something is wrong with the Blue Ray. Can anyone please help with this? Send me a message if you know what to do or reply to me if you know what to do.
