Did you know I've made over 800+ other videos on KZfaq? Hit that SUBSCRIBE button and watch another Barnacules Nerdgasm video right after this one! 🍿 I've discovered where the majority of the squeaking, popping and clicking noise is coming from on DX Racer, GT Omega & AK Racing gas piston gaming seats including all office chairs that use a piston to move up and down. Turns out the bearings and race just wear out and lose their lubrication and this simple video will show you how to restore your chair to perfect quiet operation in just a few minutes.

▼ Questions & Answers ▼
Q) Will this work on any chair making popping and clicking noises?
A) Yes, if the chair has a gas operated piston-like 99% of all office chairs on planet earth have this method will work.
Q) I opened mine up and the internals were completely disintegrated, what now?
A) You can order a rebuild kit for them or you can just slather up what is left with lithium grease and it might not last as long but it still will quiet the chair down.

Please expand the video description for links to things mentioned in this video and repair kits if your parts are too far gone. Also, if you enjoyed the video please let me know in the comments below and slap a like on it. Special thanks to JayzTwoCents for letting me fix his chair and helping me to film this episode a few hours before I got on my flight back to WA since I already fixed all my own chairs and didn't have a good example for the video. Also, sorry I broke your armrest, Jay...

This actually works! I had taken my chair apart several times and thought I was lubing the right things but it just kept on clicking. I even hit it with a rubber mallet a few times to no avail. My parts were not worn at all but after I cleaned everything with WD40 and then slathered the bearing and washers with a heavy bearing grease it fixed the problem. Thank you.

Very nicely done. My new (to me) Aeron had that infuriating click/pop sound I thought came from the seat support mechanism. I followed your steps, and found the bearing and washers messy, but not badly worn, so figured that wasn't my problem. I cleaned everything, lubed with lithium grease and reassembled. Fixed! Took 10 minutes including running out to the workbench to get things to work with. Thanks!

For 2 years my crappy chair had this problem, and I never thought there was such a simple way of fixing it. THANK YOU!! And this is coming from someone who's room/set up is directly above their parents bedroom. Just an FYI for other people looking to do this too: Be aware that if you don't use thick (high tack) grease, this might actually make your chair worse! In my case I had to add a second rubber dampener in conjunction with silicone.

Thank you, Barnacules! I tried this exact fix once in the past and had limited success, but this time I cleaned everything well and slathered grease over everything on the bottom part of the cylinder and it worked a charm. Sincerely, an old fan from back in your codegasm days

This is legitimately the ONLY video I've found on the topic and I'm extremely glad it's a good one. I have to say I was sceptical at first, as the solution seems so unrelated to how the problem presented itself but it works perfectly. Absolutely brilliant.

I bought a new chair and experienced this issue. The person sent to repair it tried looking everywhere other than the base to find the source of the sound, and attempted to convince me that the clicking sound was normal. After watching this video, I have requested a replacement. Thanks man!

FANTASTIC!! Thank you for the fix!! This worked perfectly for my Secretlab Omega. I thought for sure I was going to have to send my chair in for repair. I found that for my chair the rubber piece that goes on top of the bearings was shot so the only fix was a standard hose washer. Works great. Thank you!

OMG I FIXED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I needed to take out the entire PISTON. I dismantled like you said but it still made HORRRIBLE cracking noise. So I took it all apart again.. but this time forced with my hand to move the piston and CRACK noise instantly... so I figured it has to be the piston connecting the chairs mount and that it has no lubricant, dried up.. so I used a hammer to hammer on the mount and pull with the other hand on the piston and got it out, lubricated the base of the piston and the inside part of the mount AND WHOILA!!! WORKS!! Something to take note for everybody still having issues :)

Thank you for your video. I bought my chair already assembled. It was popping like crazy, so I watched your video and tried to fix it. Turns out there were 2 extra washers on there, so I left them off, put it back together and I think it's working fine now. The chair is squeaking so I will tighten up everything and hopefully I will have a quiet chair!

OMG I LOVE YOU!! My girlfriend got crazy from the clicking noises my IKEA MARKUS chair made whenever I was moving. Opened the bottom up like you did and found lots of small pieces and the metal washers had grooves in them. Cleaned everything and reassembled the washers upside down. (With IKEA MARKUS the assembly order is: rubber thingy, washer, ball bearing, washer; then put the starfish on, another washer and the securing clamp.) I HAVE A SILENT CHAIR AGAIN.

My desk chair was completely fucked. It's 4 years older than this video and was so damn loud with any movement it was time to get rid of it. Unfortunately they obviously stopped making it and for the life of me I couldn't find another I liked. Thanks to this video, I figured out that the rubber bumper and the ball bearing were completely busted. After replacing them, cleaning shit up, and applying generous shaft lube, it sounds like a brand new 10 year old chair! Thanks for this video man, you're great and I loved it. It has for sure bought me a few years before I ditch my chair for good.

I had my chair lock up completely AND my FAUX leather arm pads had peeled completely off to the point I had to vacuum everyday and scrap off the black bits from my linoleum floor! EIGHT YEARS LATER and WAY past the warranty, I called the 800 number on the bottom of the chair. THEY SENT ME BOTH, yes, BOTH replacement arm rests AND replacement piston for FREE!! They have this stuff sitting in a warehouse FOREVER and LOVE to send it out to customers if only to make room in the warehouse and get rid of it to begin with. Think about it, what the hell is a company suppose to do with all these older parts? You doing them a HUGE favor with every replacement call they get! EPIC!!!

Hey Nerdgasm, thanks for the video! My chair was getting ultra loud. It was insane. It would scare people if I spun myself in the chair, POW-POW-POW!! Office drive-by! It's my desk chair at work in an office with other people.... So, I watched your video Friday, and today I brought in red lithium bearing grease and some other tools with me into work. I didn't even clean the bearings b/c they weren't goopy(?). They were actually just bone dry. And there was no apparent damage. I applied the red grease to everything down there, put it back together. Btw yes, that clip does come off very easily lol. And now, there's no noise at all. Completely silent. I still squint my eyes when I lean back in it, waiting for the pop. Feels like a different (or new) chair now. Big thanks again for this video. Liked and sub'd.

great video, first time know that this issue is caused by the bottom bearing. I had the same problem with Corsair T1 gaming chair(bought 2 T1 chair, one is ok, the other has the exact same issue). BTW, Corsair T1 chair's BACK MOUNT COVER never fits on the back(just hanging there loosely), so if you have OCD or cannot bear that , don't buy this chair.

@@cherppy_ Mine didn't click at all, just squeaked as a rotated. But given what was said in the video about clicking, it should help. And now my chair is super smooth and silent.

I don't know if you can help but do you know how to fix the back of a gaming chair leaning back too far. Like the back of the chair isn't straight anymore. I can't find anything anywhere about it

Nice video! Turns out on my chair the rubber goes on first before the washers and the bearing! Also mine had two washes with the bearing in between so yeah.
