Hi there. I cant see my ext hard drive. When I go to disk management the drive is split into 2 parts. 1 half is unallocated. If I follow your instructions I'm worried that I might re format the part that is already allocated?

None of this worked at all for me...it's a brand new drive...no light to say it's powered up, no trace of it either in WD Utilities program or in diskmgmt.msc :(

ah, it was the USB cable that came with it...had to use my mobile broadband cable

Bro u are amazing. My external hard drive wasn't showing up at all until I did the part where u fixed the unallocated disk in Disk Management. it's crazy! "This PC" couldn't detect my "My Book". I called WD support but they suggested that I try a data recovery software and then format my external hard disk. I tried it out but surprise surprise, it didn't work. I kept on looking around until I fell on this video. All I had to do was download the WD Drive Utilities and it worked. Thanks man! You helped big time

I SERIOULY can not thank you enough!!!! I was having issues even detecting My Passport. Couldn't do anything with it, except that it made a nice blue LED lighted coaster that cost me $100. Thank you for the detailed video. I had to use WD Utilities to format my ExHD as a NTFS drive even though I had previously formatted the drive as NTFS using Paragon for MacOS. I'm running Parallels to run windows on my macbook and even after mounting the drive to Windows, it was not appearing under 'This PC'. Once I used WD Utilities to format the drive it was assigned a drive letter and appeared as an available drive.

Hey, just opened my new laptop, which can’t find My Passport. Drive is visible in Disk manage and Device Manager, all updated no issues and so on. And yet can’t be seen in My computer. As well for Disk Management window after right clicking only thing I can select is Delite Volume or Help (format is not a good idea as drive is half full with my work). Maybe there is some another hidden way to make drive visible?

Thanks for this video, I was able to see that the drive is still "alive" but not showing under devices and drives. Any idea what to do if the hard drive shows up in Disk Manager but all of the options except "delete volume" are greyed out? It's an old external HDD and shows an "EFI System Partition" and doesn't show "NTFS" under the partition, just "healthy" and its size.

Thank you. I have been saving pictures in WD My Passport external drive for the past 6 months for a project I am trying to finish. This external drive is not recognized on both my pcs out of nowhere even though it shows on devices and printers page!. Everything on your disk management page is different than mine! I don't see any D drive, Disk 1 at the bottom says "unknown", Not initialized. Partition 1 and 2 on the top has zero in front of both disks. You are suggesting to format. Doesn't formatting and initializing delete all the saved data? Your suggestions do not work in my situation. Any other suggestions when the drive is there but not recognized by windows? I appreciate any help.

Correct a format will basically wipe the drive.

I've got the same problem. My passport was originally Mac formatted and my new pc does not recognise it. Wd utilities recognises it and all 3 tests came back positive. It appeared in devices as an external drive but with a missing driver. I downloaded and installed the we driver and now appears everywhere as external USB storage device working fine. Except still no drive letter and doesn't appear in disk management.
