Home Mender thank you verrrrry much for making this video. You are a Godsend. : ) I am a 50 year old lady who has no clue about the technicalities of garages and I was cleaning it out and tried to close my garage door and it would only go down to about 2 inches off the ground and I had no idea what to do. I hadn't opened it for about 6 months, so I thought....well, something TOLD me not to open the thing. Well, I didn't have to money to call a repair person and had no clue what the problem was. Soooooo, I went to You Tube and your video was the 2nd one I came across. A simple 2 minute video that made me aware that a simple little chunk of outside weed was hanging from my garage door blocking the sensor. I would have NEVER realize that that was the problem. I kept overlooking the little weed. I can guarantee you that if I would have called a company, they would have come out and EASILY charged me $200.00 bucks. Again, you are a GODSEND! Love ya, and I don't even know ya! (haha). Take care and thanks a million. You saved me money that I didn't have!!! : )

I've been dealing with this problem for the last 9 months. I've tried several different fixes to no avail. I now have to press and hold the Smart Control button until the door completely closes. And once in awhile that doesn't work either. I followed CoachJM advice from a month prior and it did the trick. Unplug your opener for about 5 minutes and replug it in and it all works! Including all remote controls. I did this once before but only waited a few seconds. You must wait longer (5 minutes).

I have been finding my door open when I get home or even in the morning when I go to leave (I guess I should be waiting for until closed before I drive off). So I am thinking, crap another expensive home repair. Glad I found Home Mender. Guess what I found..... A fly carcass in a spider web in front of the receiver. So when the breeze blows in the little guy wiggles and trips the sensor. Who would have thought? Thanks, Dustin..maybe add a comment about clearing away the cobwebs to your video.

Nice video. Clear and concise. Have you any advice for a door that won't go down in only cold weather? Sometimes the door moves just a foot then goes back up. The light bulb flashes 10 times. There are no obstructions. Each LED light stays green for the duration of this procedure. Each lens is clean. Sometimes it works as intended. The problems comes only in winter. Thanks.

Great repair tip. My door is up all the way and when I hit the button to shut it, it only does down about 2" and then goes back up. I find when that happens I have to push the door up about an in 1" or 2" while in the open position, then hit the close button and the door goes down. I will try your tip and see if that helps.

hey nerds!.... as long as the sensors are good.... ( you can test them by pulling them down and putting them close together to see if they still work) ....otherwise its kind of trial n error...continue to fiddle with them until you can get them to line up...most brands have a universal sensor set that you can replace them sith if needed...i hope this helps!

Lataya Spikes hi lataya! If it won’t go down unless you hold it, it’s typically the sensors out of alignment. If the car remote doesn’t work, I would replace the battery first. If that doesn’t work it may have had moisture damage or heat damage. I hope this helps.

Mine will go almost all the way down then stops and goes back up. The sensors seem to be working, I tested by putting my hand over one while it shut and it stopped and went back. It overheats if I manage to shut it and won't work for 10 minutes. What could it be?

James the Brovivor hey James! If you’re sure the sensors are good , for Sometimes killing power to it completely will reset things inside reboot and function. How’s the force setting?

@@homemend I think it's good, I've tried adjusting it a bit so it closes "further" but it still does the same. If the sensors are off only some will it do this or is it all or nothing?

hi nancy, it sounds to me like the sensors are not aligned. Or they may be faulty. The way you might try is to remove on of them from the wall and set them right next to each other to see if they work. Hope this helps!

What if the door won't even start to go down?

hi debra. checking to see if your sensors are aligned is usually the problem. If it wont even start, you might try your wall button. You can test it by removing it and touching the two wires together. I would start there. Hope this helps.
