This was super thorough and helpful. Even little things like ensuring that the new valve stems were snug before placing them into the shower. Wouldn’t have thought of that and just put them in. Superb instruction…You’ve got a new sub.

That was a good job but, you still should have replaced the seats. It is worth getting and using a seat wrench to get the old seats out. Using one of those makes it pretty easy But, I can understand why you did what you did. Just the other day, I received a rebuild kit I bought online for $60.00 for my Dad's 63 year old American Standard 3-handle shower valve in our old, upstairs bathroom that us kids used when we were young. I did replace the seats and it wasn't too bad. The rest went in fine. My Dad's 63 year old shower works perfectly now! Like it's brand new!

Great video. I've replaced diverter valves in my house over 30 years. The knob was stripped out along with the stem splines. When I installed the new Danco diverter valve it leaked just like yours does, maybe a bit more when the shower mode is selected. You seemed ok to live with it. Since this video is 3 years old, did you ever fix that or figure out why it's leaking? Thanks!!

@@KenTraining Thanks so much for the info. My diverter valve is leaking just like yours was but worse. Someone in the comments of the Danco valve mentioned his O-ring was a bit thin and he put a thicker one on and it took care of his problem. I did the same but it only made it better, not fixed. Now it's leaking like before. I bought a Home Depot home brand Everbuilt diverter valve and plan to give that a try otherwise I'll be doing the same as you did. I also like how you didn't need to turn off the water to replace the diverter valve. The water shutoff valve is from the 60's and sometimes it wants to seep so I tighten the bonnet but if I don't need to shut it off that's even better. Thanks!!

While this does have good information I don’t see how you can call this 100% success since your diverter is leaking. There shouldn’t be any water stream coming down the spout if the water is being diverted to the shower. Either you have a bad seat behind the diverter or a defective diverter valve.

Yes, anything is possible. I would 1. Shut off the water 2. Take the diverter valve apart and check with flashlight any obstructions. Then I would turn water on for a second to blow out any debris. 3. Put diverter valve back in and make sure valve operates freely 4. Put water back on and test operation.

@KenTraining

Great question, the answer is First call in a plumber to see if they have some tricks to replace it that you did not do. if the plumber is unsuccessful in the valve replacement then How bad was the valve for you to start this project. If you cant get the old valve out can you live with the old valve? If you can then just live with it, if you cant, you will need to remove the entire valve and replace the shower fixture with all new. try to go in the back of the shower wall for access. This requires more skill than just replacing the valves.

Also, you should've gone to "Home Depot" and bought a "seat" tool. It only costs $16.00. Because, those seats, NEED to be changed whenever you change the stems. Just like the washers and the Packing item. Now, if you will view and listen to the "JSK" video on KZfaq;you will see, he says NOT one a word. And in most cases you do not see his face. Wow good!
