This is very helpful! What is the capacity of this cooling system, i.e. 300-tons? What is the annual cost of the antiscalants, biocides and other water treatments; and how much water is lost through blowdown and evaporation, or amount in new water added each month?

I used the water based stuff because at my location I can't get the solvent based (rural Alaska, $$$ hazaed shipping etc). My advice: don't go straight to your project but have some scrap pieces and PRACTiCe first. This can work very well but is really touchy. What I found: if you wait till it's "tacky", as in still sticky but no longer wet, it is too late. It won't stick. This is what it says to do on the can, but it is misleading. I guess "tacky" needs to be better defined. This is water based, so there has to still be some water in it to bond. The best time is when it is no longer runny, but still moist enough to leave a fingerprint and a bit of residue on your fingertips. Then it will stick nicely. Apply several layers (I used 3 layers on plywood, two on the formica, in short succession while still wet), use lots of pressure, weigh it down for about a day until it is bonded and make sure to pay attention to the temperature (above 65 F). When I did all this while applying formica to plywood for my countertop, it worked very well.

@@KenTraining my question is about horizontal nail spacing. you placed nails at 6" vertically along the studs. it appears you need a nail at the midpoint between studs otherwise with 17" oc spacing of studs the mesh will sag when you apply the stucco, and you will lose the 1/4" clearance between the wall and mesh.

If your compressor is running and all fans as well, you will need to feel the refrigerant lines before and after the compressor. you are looking for a temperature difference to show that you are moving refrigerant. it would be best practice to put on a pressure gauge to see the refrigerant pressure/s.

That's why you don't buy a water heater from the box stores because all have plastic drain valves. If you do buy one replace the plastic drain valve with a brass one before you install water heater. Also it's a very bad idea to use that galvanized nipple because it will corrode inside , trust me I been a licensed master plumber for 29 years I seen it all in my years, never ever use galvanized on any water lines . Contractor grade water heaters come with a brass drain valve, Do you think the manufacturer would use brass drain valves if they would cause any type of issue ? Of course not. I don't see a drip leg on the gas line what a hot mess. You didn't install a check valve either for that recirculation pump. Looks like a 4 year old installed that water heater. I would have just replaced the entire water heater and installed it the right way. I know in California you have to use flexible water lines and brace water heater due to the earthquakes. But it could have been done neater. In my area if you do any work on a customers water heater and there are any things not up to code you have to fix it correctly, if the customer doesn't want you to fix it then you tell them they need to hire someone else to do the work because the plumbee can loose his or her license if they work on a water heater and see things out of code and don't correct it

in my opinion the Manual J is to low in the numbers BUT, I would install a 40K with 2 stages. That way when your home is satisfied you will only cycle on stage 1 at 20K. this gives you the energy savings and extra capacity when you need it. I say, that is the best of both worlds.

I have an AO Smith water heater from 2015 and I am unable to remove the anode rod. I have tried breaker bars, and 1/2”impact wrench and I can’t seem to break it loose. I am not going to purchase another AO Smith. They apparently have 2 classes of heater and I must have gotten mine through the big box cheaper variety. Oh well. Any advice before I throw the water heater out and put a new one in? Thanks for any advice you have for this DiY homeowner.
@KenTraining
@KenTraining Ай бұрын
I would NOT trash a water heater just because you can't pull out the anode rod. I would ONLY replace a WH if its leaking or if it will not light off. If I were to pull out the anode rod, I would soak the threads with penetrating fluid and try with breaker bar and cheater. if that did not work, I would stop and just live with the installed anode rod and forget about it.
