The only mistake you made in my opinion is not replacing both heads when you found the problem to be with the valves. It looks like you still had a miss at idle at the end of your video and to fix you will need to repeat the whole procedure again. The Vulcan motors are known for soft valve/head issue's

I think I would have wanted to try using some valve lapping compound to hopefully get a good valve seat fitment. I was definitely questioning not doing anything to the other head. Also didn't notice any checking of the straightness of the deck and head surface for warpage.

I am fairly certain you Installed the fulcrum bolts and push rods wrong. After you install the rocker arm fulcrum bolt and pushrod you then turn the crankshaft until the lifter is all the way down then tighten the fulcrum bolt to the torque listed in the chapter's specification in two stages. You cant just instal the rods without moving the lifters that they sit in.

@randomtallguyvlogs6756
@randomtallguyvlogs6756 Ай бұрын
It could be many things like head gasket leaks, valves not sealing, or worn piston rings. You can add oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole and retest. If it is still 50 psi then it could be the valves or head gasket.

I couldn’t really tell to much but is it needed to remove the push rods/rocker arms if your just replacing the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets? Also how did you clean the fuel injectors? I don’t want to blow a bunch of money on new ones since mine work fine but figure I may as well clean them. Thank you so much for this video because I have the same exact 01 Ranger! I’m trying to do a bunch of gaskets and maintenance before going on an 8 hour trip!

Yes if I remember correctly you must remove the push rods to lift the intake manifold out. As for the fuel injectors, spray some light carb cleaner into them to clean them, there are a lot of videos on KZfaq on how to clean those.

@randomtallguyvlogs6756
@randomtallguyvlogs6756 Жыл бұрын
Yea snapped bolts are the worst, you can try drilling the center of the bolt and then use a bolt extractor. The most important thing is to not drill into the threads. If there’s enough bolt sticking out then you might be able to use like vice grips to unscrew it.

Is that a brass wire brush you are using with a drill to clean your manifold and head? Is brass okay to use like that? Brass is softer than steel which is what the head is made from I think...but what about the intake as well?
@randomtallguyvlogs6756
@randomtallguyvlogs6756 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s a soft brass wire brush. You can use it to clean up any surface, just never use it on the head surface where the head meets the engine block. Same with the engine block itself. any little deep mark can ruin it. In the video, I cleaned off the protective coating on the intake and exhaust inlets but that’s it. Never use it on the side where the head meets the engine.
