Buy Nissan Quest Wheel Hub Bearing : amzn.to/2GHp5cg
Timken Wheel Hub Bearing (out of stock last I checked) : amzn.to/2iCDifr
This is a how-to video that shows how to change the rear wheel bearing and hub assembly on a 2004 Nissan Quest minivan. This should apply to all Nissan Quest vans between 2004-2009 that use this rear wheel hub assembly. The part I used is listed below and cost just under $100.00. Perform all work at your own risk! Be safe, use jack stands, gloves, and eye protection when applicable!
Torque specs for the 4 large bolts that bolt the hub onto the carrier: 44 ft. lbs.

Great video..the only comment I have is with regards to the torque required. According to the Service Manual the 17mm bolts that hold the hub in place should be torqued to 44 ft*lb. The torque spec you mentioned sounds like the front axle nut possibly.

The front axle nut is 92 foot lbs. See Fax.pdf at nicoclub forum for the factory service manual. Page FAX-9. 19mm caliper bolts (torque member bolts) are 62 ft lbs and 17mm sliding caliper pins are 32 ft lbs, at least on the 2007 Quest. Please torque parts appropriately for safety and longevity. Overtorqued bolts will lead to premature hub failure. BTW, great video!

@@NeedsMovies Great comment and thank you for the information. The recommended more than 150 Lbs-ft for the wheel bearing bolts is way too much. It is highly recommended to use the correct torque for safety and technical reasons.

Hi this is a great video and very informative. Now I have replaced my rear passenger hub assembly on my Nissan Quest 2004 but an unusual issue happened where after this installation my ABS brakes are now impacted. So the ABS actuator when I press on my brakes is pulsating and I do not have any LIGHTS on my dash telling me any issues with the ABS system. So in other words my ABS is kicking in after the hub assembly replacement. I went a bit further where I took out the fuse related to ABS(right side under the engine hood) and this confirmed for sure it was my ABS. The downfall of removing the fuse is it impacted my SLIP,TCS & ABS where my dashboard was lite up with these warning lights. In addition to that my odometer was no longer working. So running without the fuse is not an option. I decided based on all of this to put back the old hub and the ABS issue is no longer occurring. I though maybe the unusual had happened that I had gotten a faulty/defective part, so I went back to my local part store and they did provide me another one but did indicate this was very unusual. Unfortunately the new part had the same issue. So I believe this confirms it's not a faulty hub part as well as my ABS sensor is working properly as well. The part is from AC DELCO and I know you indicated TIMKEN but is it really possibly that the AC DELCO($178.00 but I'm in Canada) hub kit simply is not the proper after market part and that the TimKen is the best choice? The price difference from my part store is $100 more for the TimKen and I'm willing to pay the extra but I'm not confident this will resolve my issue which is why I've not done this yet. Do you believe the TimKen hub is the solution to my problem? Also my part store told me that I could try to do a ABS system reset but I've search online and have had no luck in finding any instructions on this or do not even know if it's possible. So would you happen to know if an ABS system reset is a possibility on a Nissan quest and if so would you know how to do this or do I have to bring it to the shop? Any other suggestion(s) on how I could resolve my issue.

+Wayne Villon Hi Wayne, sorry to hear about the issues you are having. I am not sure I will be of much help, but, if it was me, at this point in your troubleshooting I would go and try the Timken part. From your testing, you seem to have narrowed the issue down to the AC Delco part being somehow incompatible (who knows why exactly). For the ABS reset, I would consult your local dealer if you can't find anything online, since that is a safety issue. Good luck with the testing!

+Justin's Pit Lane +Justin's Pit Lane Hi Justin, Just wanted to let you know that I finally ordered the replacement part(Timken) from wrenchmonkey.ca. It took me a while as I had to iron out their return policy 1st just in case. Good news is the Timken worked like a charm and even better news is l saved abt $50 from the faulty AC DELCO parts that I had spent weeks on going back and forth with our local parts store (Benson) trying to resolve the ABS failures it was causing. Actually the local parts store wanted to charge me $280+taxes for the same Timken hub assembly part. So I really saved well over $130 with taxes buying it online via wrenchmonkey.ca instead of local parts store(Benson's). The online store also had another well know product from SKF that is also known for it's quality for hub assembly kits as well. The SKF was as bit more expensive ($20 more). please note it also had lower quality parts option as well, so just a warning from my experience is stick with the well known brands of either Timken or SKF! Delivery was excellent as well where via standard shipping, I receive the part in 3 business days in my super community mailbox. Thanks again for this great video and your help, Wayne

Nice Video , thanks. You can sometimes use a 3/4" wrench on a 19mm bolt. 9/16" for a 14mm. and a 1/2" for 13mm.

what were the symptoms? because I have a vibration and some noise when I go above 30 miles per hour, hope you can give me some information. Thanks
@TheBTRGarage
@TheBTRGarage 8 жыл бұрын
+alex rivera It will be a noise coming from the wheel area while driving. For me it sounded like a grinding noise, like there was sand or rocks grinding around inside the wheel. You may also get some vibration or wobble in the wheel when at speed. You can kind of hear the noise when I move the old hub after getting it off the car.

+Justin's Pit Lane Thanks for your quick response Justin, not sure how to explain what kind of noise my van makes, but the funny thing is that it goes away (the noise) when I turn the steering wheel to the left, kind of confused.

alex rivera Coming from a rear wheel? You can jack up the side you think it is coming from and spin the wheel, you should hear or feel the rough grinding.

If I was paying a shop to do this job - what would you consider to be a fair price including parts and labor?
@TheBTRGarage
@TheBTRGarage 9 жыл бұрын
Olsen Design Group Hi, it is hard to say. Most shops I imagine charge between $80-$100 per hour of labor, maybe $20-$30 for shop supplies. I would say 2 hours labor would be the minimum, plus the part. So a few hundred dollars maybe? Also be aware that some shops might use a genuine OEM Nissan part which would also cost a good bit more money. Call a few shops to get estimates and see who comes out on top.

Question. I tried to set the torch at 175 ponds and snapped the nut. I tried setting it at 130 pounds and snapped another nut. I called the Nissian dealer and talked with the guy in service and he said they don't torch them past 100? I did mine at 100 since I cannot set it past this without breaking them :( Any thought on that from your experience?)
@TheBTRGarage
@TheBTRGarage 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, sorry to hear you busted some bolts :( If the dealer service guy told you 100ft. lbs, then go with that. There is a chance that the torque value I found online was not accurate, so I'm glad to hear from a service tech on what they do! Thanks for adding that note and I think I will add a caption to the video that clarifies the torque value provided by the service tech!
