This is my detailed procedure for replacing the serpentine accessory drive belt on a 2003 Honda Accord. It is the same or similar procedure for any Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, Crosstour, Element, Acura TSX, ILX, or RDX with the K-series 2.4L 4 cylinder engine. In this video, I show an illustration on how the belt is routed around each accessory pulley and demonstrate the removal and replacement process. I also describe what to look for when the belt needs to be replaced as a routine maintenance item.
When equipped with the right basic tools and some patience, it is not a difficult job.

I like how this was done without loosen tons of bolts or lifting the car. There's hope in this DIY video. Thank you!

Great video -- the tip about routing around the crankshaft pulley from underneath is a great one. In fact, I jacked the car, and pulled the R Front wheel, and you can get to it through the wheel well. (I had the belt caught on something under there and it ate up 3" of slack, which was unbelievably frustrating, until I discovered the problem).

I stripped the bolt on my idler. Belt started to slacken up, while i was trying to get the belt off it tightened back up, now I can't loosen it. I guess I'll just set the whole thing on fire

Nabre Labre pee on it! Could be worse, the true reason they 180 turned the engine on the last gen integra is the nightmare that they had going with the alternator position. Or was it because itbs look better in front? Sneaky bastards.

thank you..if i may ask is have you ever found out what that noise is that makes it sound like a diesel? My v6 accord makes the same exact noise as yours..it's not ridiculously loud an i can't hear it when driving but when i have the hood open or I'm standing by it i can hear it..Exactly like yours
@WorseThanChiggers
@WorseThanChiggers 8 жыл бұрын
I haven't definitively diagnosed it yet and our '07 Acura RDX as a similar noise. It doesn't change when I do the water misting test. So, I've ruled out the belt itself. It is surely one of the belt driven rotating pulleys or components. The noise gets slightly louder when the A/C compressor kicks on and imposes more load on the belt and other components. It's not dangerous so if and when it gets worse, it will be easier to find.

Quick question anyone. I was replacing my radiator there in the lower bottom are 2 small hoses one on each side or the radiator. They have some oil on it but I lose some during removing . Any one knows what type of oil is that ?? Looks black like motor oil but please I need answers . Thanks.
@WorseThanChiggers
@WorseThanChiggers 7 жыл бұрын
If your car has an automatic transmission, those are the transmission cooler lines. Transmission fluid flows through them and through the radiator to keep your transmission cool. If that fluid is black, you're way overdue for a transmission fluid change.

Is there a chance the pulley gets stuck up making it difficult to reduce tension to remove or replace the serpentine belt?
@WorseThanChiggers
@WorseThanChiggers 6 жыл бұрын
I suppose it could be possible for the pulley to get jammed if you slip and allow the tensioner to violently spring open. But, I don't think that is very likely.

Thanks for the video...It took me like 15 minutes...I did grab the Harbor Freight Serpentine Belt (www.harborfreight.com/serpentine-belt-tool-kit-66344.html), put on a 14mm socket (not in the kit but worked perfect) and it made it super low effort.

Once you've taken the belt off the top pulley, why not just cut the belt with some tin snips and thread it out that way without having to try to thread it off while still in a loop? You're tossing the belt anyway.
@WorseThanChiggers
@WorseThanChiggers 7 жыл бұрын
Good idea. That is certainly faster and easier. There are times, however, when you don't want to destroy the old belt such as when performing some other service that requires removing and reinstalling a perfectly good belt. I also like to keep the old belt in the trunk for emergencies.

Well, that would surely get it off. But, I wouldn't be happy about the violent effects on the tensioner. Then you still need to spring it back open to put on the new belt.
