@@tosslevyindianmusicalinstr5507 What kind of wire is this? Where i can find or buy this kind of coil?? it is clear that in the video it is not using Rosalu, purchased strings, it's using an entire coil. That's why I'm asking, to save my money. Vai, thanks for the amazing tutorial. I only have one question: what should be the ideal length of the string before I decide to cut it? Should it go from the tuning peg to the ridge where you put the loop? Or should it be a bit bigger? If so, how big?
@tosslevyindianmusicalinstr5507 Жыл бұрын
Hello Zihad. Generally,, after determining the length between the peg and the ridge where you place the loop, you need to add at least 20-25cm on both ends. I always start with making the loop. After the placement of the loop, pull the string to the peg. Make sure you have enough length over to ensure you can roll the string approximately 5 times around the peg. This should be about 15-20cm. At this point you can cut off any excess length. Then you can continue to fix the string to the peg. If the string length is too short you will encounter difficulties attaching it to the peg. If the string is too long , and you need to wind it more than 5-7 times around the peg, then this could cause an instability in the tuning.

Hello, I would love to know where you source your strings from, I'm struggling to find them t a good price in the U.S. thank you.🌺

Hello Pranav, I'm afraid I can't help you for the US, I'm based in Europe and I personally use German strings. Roslau for steel strings and Jahn for phosphor bronze.

Everytime I try to restring my first taraf string it snaps everytime how do I stop this please help
@jawari52 жыл бұрын
Hello Bei, First of all, be sure to watch my video on replacing the taraf strings. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oppmZ8Rhuquak3U.html&ab_channel=TossLevy%2CIndianMusicalInstruments If this does not help, then you have a few of possibilities to consider. This could help you analyze the source of the problem. 1. that there in a kink or strong bend in the string. this will weaken the string under tension. 2. that the taraf eye has some damage. The eyelets sometimes split open, this can cause the string to break. 3. that there may be a problem on the slot of the lower taraf bridge. something sharp? 4. that there may be a problem at the tailpiece (langot). Something sharp? 5. The gauge of the steel-string should be between 0.20 - 0.25 mm depending on your basic tuning, sa = C-D. 6. make sure that you don't tune to high.

What kind of wire is this? Where i can find or buy this kind of coil??
@jawari5 Жыл бұрын
I personally use the German companies Roslau for the steel strings, Jahn for copper and brass. Also, Pyramid have a wide range of strings and will custom make any string you wish. They also have sitar and sarod sets, although I don't always agree with some of the gauges they use. You maybe able to ask them for custom made sets... I'm not sure.

@@jawari5 Sir, with all due respect, it is clear that in the video it is not using Rosalu, purchased strings, it's using an entire coil. That's why I'm asking, to save my money. What type of temper for this copper wire? Hard temper, rigid?
@tosslevyindianmusicalinstr5507 Жыл бұрын
Hi Danilo, I generally use coils because I use a lot of strings. I purchased the coils from Roslau. Single strings can be purchesed from Pyramid. Your questions regarding the copper strings can better be answered by Jahn themselves. I hope this answers your questions.
