Subscribed a few months ago and watch every new video. So I will ask an expert 2 things. 1 How to get rid of drain flies. Ive cleaned my drains and flushed with hot water, but I still have them coming out every so often. 2. Many articles say that you should flush the drain with boiling water and or a baking soda/vinegar mix. But Ive read that boiling water down a PVC pipe isnt a good idea due to the high temperature.

I’ve managed to find a “will fit” flapper for my discontinued toilet (not easy, but the explanation about model numbers was very helpful!!). I’ve got everything laid out and ready to go. I’ve just rewatched this one to psych myself up!! Here we go….lol

How do you trouble shoot the flapper not staying up long enough. Or another way to say that, the flapper immediately closes and you get a short flush.

Hey Mr Wakefield, first let me say I'm very impressed by your presentation. I have a question for you: if you were a 38 year old father of 2, with an Associate's in psychology, in great physical shape and were wanting to enter the plumbing field, living in a small town in south GA, how would you do it? Thanks for having so many flappers. My flapper however, is not soft and can’t easily be removed from those L ears. My flapper has a hard plastic hole. I’m afraid I might break the ears in order to take it off. Can you please help me? Thank you, it was a good video for what I’ll have to do if I can remove the flapper.

Make sure you have the right shape too! A previous owner of our house got a half moon shape when it supposed to a circle shape.

I have the old style black float with the rod. I've screwed back and forth to put more pressure on the valve, but it still slowly runs. Any suggestions? Should I just replace the whole system?

Excellent video, Roger, but I can't seem to get my flapper off. It looks like the navy blue one you show at 9:14. Mine doesn't have any "hooks" to lift it off the rim, so I tried twisting and lifting. Nothing. I'm afraid to break something. Does removing take more force than it looks in the video? How do you get the navy blue one you have to come off? Thanks.

Put some Vaseline around the hooks of the water filler stem and it should help the flapper ears to slide right off.

Thanks for the info. Wondering if there’s a way to determine the length of the ears that are used to attach the flapper. I bought a flapper where the ears were too short and the flapper didn’t cover the opening.

Need to replace the flapper but can’t figure out how to remove, the hooks on the ears are solid hard plastic, I don’t want to break the unit by removing the old flapper.

How do you change the whole valve assembly? My toilet has a casket at the bottom of the black tube assembly, that casket is needed to change, how do we remove the whole thing? My toilet is an old one Mansfield 160/162, help? Anyway, thanks for your video here, appreciate you Roger W.

Roger, We've replaced the float, replaced the flapper (with the exact same kind) and the toilet still runs, 3 seconds every 15 to 20 minutes. couldn't feel anything on the rim when we replaced the flapper. any other suggestions?

My flapper doesn't seem to be removable. It's hard plastic hooking to the arms with no way to slide it off. Do I have to replace the whole thing then?

Sometimes it can be difficult to get the flapper ears off the water stem pipe. Simply apply some Vaseline to the arms of the water stem and this makes it a lot more easy to slide the flapper ears off. Once you get the flapper off clean the mold and bacteria off with some warm bleach water and scrubbing pad. Then re connect the flapper to the water stem pipe and it should fix your leaking problem with the toilet. If the flapper is cracked of missing any pieces you will have to replace it. Just a little tip from my experience with water leaks caused by a dirty or broken flapper. 😁

Well, you agave me a bit of information I haven't heard elsewhere. I replaced the flapper and it's better but still ghostflushes. I'll bet the area below the flapper is not smooth. But now, what do I do about that?

Hi there. I watched a few of your videos and I’ve got to say, the Orby’s one had me laughing so hard! I need your help. I live in a manufactured home which is a fancy name for a mobile home, and I need to replace the flapper in my master bathroom toilet. My home is probably about 25 years old. I moved in a year and a half ago. I had no idea they are different toilets for mobile homes. The flapper that is in there is a Korky, but it is all mushy and gooey, and I cannot tell the model number or if it’s a 2 or 3 inch flapper. Can you please help me? MY flapper won't stay up. When I flush it, the flapper comes back down right away and closes the hole, preventing water to come in to flush the toilet. What is wring? There is only a bit of slack in the chain. Thank you!

the chain is too tight on the handle making it stay open...take the clip and lower it on the chain

My toilet flapper is bad the toilet keeps on running. I plan on replacing the whole toilet because it has so many other problems. And the toilet is old just my opinion.
