What I love about this video is that it shows the little mistakes and struggles you had to disassemble and install the clutch. Most Motovloggers just edit it that stuff and make it look like they did it perfectly the first time.

I did not yet change the clutch, good and useful video. Do not be angry, but the screw should be tightened crosswise, not order. This is the rule of mechanical engineering.Thanks for the real of video clips. Hi!

Hi, thanks for the vid. Very informative and useful. I've just received my clutch plate set and am hoping to give this a go myself (on my Ducati Scrambler - could not find any clutch replacement vids for it, but understand it's pretty much the same engine as the monster 796). I read in your reply to the previous comment that there a several things you would do differently next time. Reading through other comments, I gather they might include: putting a little oil around the seal of the oil filter, and filling the filter with oil before mounting it, which is how I learned to do it too. What I was wondering about was what is meant by staggering the plates? Do you stagger all of them (or just the last plate as I read in one comment)? And how is that done? Sorry, this is totally new to me, and hope to head off issues before I create them. Any other advice, or things that you would do differently? Thanks again.
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 6 жыл бұрын
Yep, i always oil the seal before putting the filter on. I just didnt in this video. That's good practice. I've never really filled filter with oil, but that does make sense, so you don't over fill/under fill the bike. It's not necessary to stagger all the plates, just the last one. you will see when you pull of your clutch cover that the last plate sits on a different set of knotches. It's pretty obvious after the fact but during this video I was way too exited to notice it. However - my clutch works perfectly (knock on wood) even without doing that last step. All seems fine. It's a really straight forward and easy process as long as you take your time and do not rush. Damn new Scramblers and their clutches, my buddy is on his 3rd one and his bike is like 2 years old :(
@greggusan
@greggusan 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly! 24,000 km and this is the third set of clutch plates. I didn't own the bike when the plates were first changed, but the original owner has told me that he got them installed by Ducati, which I guess means they were Ducati OEM parts, which for the Scrambler, are pretty crap I hear. Am trying the Barnett set, with new Barnett clutch springs. Hope they are more durable. Guess I might want to gear down less too. Anyways, thank for the vid and info. Hope your clutch continues to work well!
@Obywatel_RP8P

I guess I would have to change those springs as well. My mechanic says that clutch is perfect, measured it and look at it, not burned. Suggested that I should replace springs. Hope it helps, cuz at the moment my clutch is slipping like hell. :(

That is a hard question to answer. Depends on your taste and preference. The less crazy/sporty/Logoy you want your gear to look, the more you will end up paying. I think between a helmet/jacket/pants/boots/gloves and a few other things about 1,000$ is a good amount.

I'm a mechanic in Brazil. Whenever you open the clutch cover, open it with the engine still warm, so you do not damage the gasket. So you save money. :)

ah, not a bad idea. thank you for the tip. in my case my old gasket was leaking so I needed a new gasket either way, but this is good to know. I did warm up the bike for about 10 minutes before this job so the oil drains easier. What kind of bikes do you usually work on? What is the most popular bike in Brasil, in your opinion?

The new cluth (in a wet type system) always need to soak in oil before, and the gasket isnt needed ! only Ducati Threebond 1215. The oil seal in the side cover(from oil pump) isn't seal properly when u put a gasket under the cover , it causes crankshaft bearing damage over time. ;)

Perhaps do some research before leaving a comment. IT IS NOT necessary to soak these specific plates for this specific bike. Look up other tutorials, not everyone soaks them. Thank you for the view/comment anyway, every lil bit, even if hate, helps. Have a great day!
