Thank you. I had to do mine twice only because I purchased cheap hubs the first time. Still saved money but purchasing quality parts is a must.

Awesome video. I think I used a 32MM on my 2010 XLT Explorer 4x4 and just removed 2 bolts and pulled brake caliper still assembled.

Just did both front bearings and that slide hammer from AutoZone didn't do JACK lol Didn't budge a single millimeter. Five pound sledge to the rescue. Wailing on opposite sides 2-3 times and each bearing popped out with no issues. They had been (professionally) changed 3 yrs ago but I live in the rust belt so there was still a ton of crud in the bore to clean out.

Just bought an 08 Explorer EBauer really cheap.....at first I thought it had a transmission problem.....now I've realized it's gotta Be a Bearing or Diff noise!! The transmission was rebuilt 20k miles ago, and have the paperwork and warranty to confirm.....it shifts perfectly smooth. I think the previous owner may have gotten spooked or something, I can't find a reason why they sold it so cheap, unless someone lied and tried to take advantage, but the truck runs Amazing other than that "whining,roaring" noise sometimes in the front Left.

Either bearing or driveshaft. I replaced the bearing 3 times and it ended up being the driveshaft

Thank you. My 07 Mountaineer was getting bad enough I was nervous to drive it. I could feel the wobble in the wheel when turning. I thought these needed to be pressed... Gonna order some decent bearings and change em out

I **think** technically you can press the bearing out of the hub and have a new bearing pressed in, but it's so labor intensive (and time spent waiting on a shop to do the work) that most people just buy the whole assembly: hub/bearing/abs sensor. So when people say bearings they usually mean the whole assembly.

@@calvinpryor yea I found some really decent ones for about $200 a side. I found some really cheap ones but I figured the would probably wear out in a year

@@scottouimet2865 would you mind sharing a link to the ones you purchased? All the bearings at big box auto stores by me start at $250 up to $350 (each) depending on the warranty...I also see some online for $50 but those sound too cheap like they would give out after 2k miles. ....$200 sounds about right in the middle..not too pricey and not too cheap

Just a note about reinstalling and torquing the caliper mounting bracket / anchor plate on 2003. I have the 4-inch thick Ford Workshop Manual for 2003 and the Haynes Manual for 2002 thru 2010. Both spec these bolts at 155 ft/lbs for 2003. If you go there they will snap. I promise. Got new bolt kit (2 bolts 3L2Z-2027-AA) at dealership and asked about torque. The mechanics use FMOnline and it says 100 ft/lbs. Please mark the correct tongue in your manuals right now for next time.

Has anyone replaced these front bearings and got them to last more than 30k miles? The original set on my 2010 Ford Explorer made it to 92k, but ever since the first swap, I've had to replace them every 30k miles or so. Trying to figure out if there's some other broken/worn-out part that's contributing to the early failure of these bearings? I was going to replace both lower control arms (hence new lower ball joints) with the bearings this time. Also what bearing are you folks using?
@iamdjnam
@iamdjnam Жыл бұрын
I’ve had success with Moog bearings. As the video states, torque the nut to 100. No issues. A common misdiagnose for bearing noise is actually the front driveshaft. I replaced all 4 bearings, still had noise. Removed the front driveshaft and it went completely silent.

Holy smokes, same issue almost to the exact mileage....got to 92k miles on the original set and since then I haven't been able to get more than 32k on a set. This time I was gonna try replacing the lower control arms along with the bearings. I thought these front bearings were a "replace once for the life of the vehicle" kinda thing.....no?
