I replaced the whole house water filter for the first time and tried to not flood my basement. We used the GE model GXWH40L while house water filtration system. The filter I am installing is a Pure Plus water filter from Amazon.

Just realized I had one in my house never opened once in 2 years. Probably the reason why we had to get a water heater again after one year. Going to keep up with cleaning this one from now on

Would the 2.5x10 (GXWH20T) size be sufficient for a 2.5 bath 2 person Florida condo, or is 4.5x10 (GXWH40L) a practical necessity? We ask because the place where we could install two might fit the smaller sizes better than the larger, or we could mix them. We intend one to house anti-scale polyphosphate, and a second with a 5micron filter with carbon. (If we have the room, we want to squeeze in a spin down filter to extend the life of the filter.)

I don't recommend it. The rubber O-ring would degrade when it comes into contact with petroleum or oils. The specs call for food-grade grease (another way of saying food grade silicone grease = does not hurt the rubber compounds).

i dont think your supposed to ever tighten the housing with the wrench, its only to remove it. Hand tight is as tight as you want it because it uses a seal.

Just curious as to where your meter is? Where your lightning line is? Thanks for the video however. Replacing for the first time and completely forgot what the plumber told me. Big help.

My water meter is in my front yard near the road. I don’t have a lighting line. Is that a ground? All my water lines are pex. I don’t have any copper in my house.

I have a question. Why did you install the filter so high up to tend to? My husband installed ours where I can change it whilst standing in the crawl space area. Also be careful when loosening to cylinder to open and change filter as I once pushed a bit too hard and cracked the pvc.

I just wanted the filter up and out of the way. I have my workout equipment set up below this filter. I'm in this area of the basement all the time. I didn't want it hanging low or on the wall where it would be in my way.

No. If you push the pressure release button, water comes out until the pressure is released. Then, no more water comes out of the button.

Wrench - it comes with the filter system when you buy it at the store.

The location of the filter is not very convenient. Adding some food grade grease around the tread can help. I replaced my filter very 2 months; i am in the Houston area. The water has a lot of clay and dirt.
