Thanks for your video. It was both informative and intimidating. On our way to Maine after fighting our water pump for over a month we finally replaced ours Today. Paid way to much for a SureFlow pump rather than figuring out how to buy one from Amazon and having to figure out where to have it delivered. Our pump had more difficult access under the bed. I was extra worried about water coming out of the lines when I took the pump off, but I guess I had done a good job draining them. What a relief to have our water pump back in operation even though we only got 5 years of service out of the original pump.

Thanks to the both of you! I particularly appreciate the wisdom in not using a higher GPM pump. He one in ours is original I think, so in anticipation I’ve thought about getting a higher volume pump, but now I’ll stick with the same GPM. I’ve been wondering how often to replace that little filter, now I know I need to check to see if it disassembles, and just clean it out. In my plumbing escapades I’ve not had the problem with getting water all over myself- more than once or twice. 😂 The good news is that it’s better than drain water!

LOL yes a lot of water in the plumbing will come out. Ask me how I know. I agree water pump replacement is a straightforward job albeit a wet one. A direct size replacement is a good idea as some of the larger pumps do draw quite a bit more power and the RV pump wiring may be undersized. Great tips as always, Lou.

I always open my low drain point before working on plumbing. Also, most pumps use those quick connect fittings and you don't need to unthread any fitting. I have a spare pump that we use to fill our tanks from a bladder while boondocking, I have used that spare before when the main pump failed. Replaced in five minutes. Good points about boondocking.
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 4 жыл бұрын
Because of the mounting location of our pump, it’s actually easier to unscrew the fittings than to reach and unplug the quick connects. Great idea to have a second pump both for filling from a bladder AND as a spare. Double duty!

Did you consider adding rubber feet/mat to further reduce noise and vibration?
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 4 жыл бұрын
Good question, Peter! We know that additional damping can be beneficial for noise and vibration reduction, but the rubber dampers included with the pump have always kept things acceptably quiet for us. So even though we didn't add them, it's a good consideration for anyone with a pump mounted in such a way that noise or vibration is a problem.

Love the blooper/paper towel. Too funny. Remember Crescent is a name brand. Correct terminology is "Adjustable Wrench". I've only replaced one pump in my 50+ years of RVing and replaced it with the same unit. I opened the low point valves before starting. I hadn't considered the extra power demand when replacing with a higher volume unit. Crescent wrench comes from the company, Crescent, who made most of them in the early 1900's. Ya could have called it a "Spanner" and really confused people. LOL

What do you think about combining a water pump with an accumulator tank? We have a tankless water heater and when we tested the water heater using the water pump we could not get enough pressure to get hot enough water, so thinking an accumulator tank will help with this.
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wonder! We're not thinking that an accumulator tank is going to help your problem. Accumulator tanks are designed to provide consistent pressure (to help reduce pressure fluctuations and to reduce pump cycling)... not necessarily to increase the pressure. It sounds more like it could be a FLOW issue. Either you're not running the water fast enough to get the tankless water heater to kick on fully (?? just guessing, as this is a concern we've had about switching to a tankless heater... since we drizzle water when dry camping to conserve). Or maybe there's enough restriction in the lines to the water heater that the pressure on the hot side isn't the same as on the cold? We'd look at what the pressure rating for your current pump is... and see if maybe replacing it with a newer pump could get you a pressure increase that might solve the problem? But we'd only do that if it works fine when on city water and is only a problem when running the pump.

@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks Жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel. Most water pumps are fairly interchangeable. But it’s always easiest to find the same one you have to make a replacement go as easily as possible. We’d suggest inspecting the pump carefully for a manufacturer, model number, or other identifying information. You may need to remove it to see that, or better yet use a small mechanics mirror if you need to see behind it to get the information. Once you have that, you can, Google search on it, or search on Amazon to find an identical replacement, which will make the job much easier.

Hi guys, quick question about the windshield cleaner you use. Are you still using rainx or have you replaced it with invisible glass with rain repellent?
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carolyn! We actually use both. When we want to do a super-duper job of cleaning and treating the windshield, we use Rain-X. When we're feeling a little less ambitious, we use Invisible Glass with Rain Repellent. We end up using the IG about 95% of the time, and probably down to about once a year with the Rain-X! Both work great, but Rain-X lasts longer (and repels rain a bit more) and IG is so easy that we use it every time we do a regular wipe-down of the glass. Can't miss either way!

You point out 5 gallon per minute pump 'filling up gray tank' but maybe state, you're also using your Potable Water as well. Even though I have 80 gallons on board fresh water storage. that doesn't go far when dry camping The 3.5gpm pump is appreciated simply because of that very reason Great video, had wondered if either of you had taken into account that maybe Water Pump was @low point in that Wet Bay, and the amount of water that would come out when replacing pump. As well as you two obviously care for your Rig, good chance you'll still be in this Motorhome when replacement water pump needs replacing. Wondering, how is the Solar/Lithium setup working so far for you two? Any issues? Any 'hiccups'? Or smooth sailing? Thanks, Derek
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Derek! We're not sure where in the grand scheme of things the pump sits in the plumbing system (high or low, etc), but we did have the rig perfectly level, so we're guessing a pretty good volume of water was gonna come out no matter what. Our Xantrex lithium battery, and brand new Xantrex solar panels are rockin' it! We'll have lots to share in upcoming videos. 😊

I just replaced mine, after it was all connected, I powered it up, and turned on the water tap hose on the panel there, It would run good then I shut it off, it ran and stopped but it wouldnt turn back on if I opened the tap valve again. I disconnected all hoses, in put and outlet, it ran empty great for a few seconds, I did not leave it running, then hooked up just the inlet, it ran great , turned it off, then back on, ran for a couple seconds then stopped, It continues to do this. It wont stay on if hooked up to the outlet. Any ideas? Thanks.
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 2 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's a tough one, Clatimer. Could be a failed backflow preventer... or the pressure switch in the pump is bad (unlikely though since it's a new pump). Triple-check that you have the pump installed inline in the correct direction for the water flow, too. Can't think of anything else at the moment... scratching our heads!

Off topic sorry, but at 8:38 marker your roof is full of solar panels compared to just 3 in the closing drone shot. Did you start with several and upgraded to new technology by going with 3 updated panels? Or you started with 3 and added more? I tried looking for a video on the change but didn't see one.
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 4 жыл бұрын
Good spotting! The footage with only 3 panels was shot last winter. We had those 3 for about 14 years, a total of about 375 watts. We recently removed all three of them and installed 8 new Xantrex panels. There are 4 flexible panels at 165 watts each and 4 tiltable rigid panels at 160 watts each, for a total of 1,300 watts! It’s been a game changer, and we’ll have a couple of videos about it coming up within the next few months. Stay tuned! 😄

Not sure, Tina. But not sure we’d want to. Are you having a problem with it?

1. Push-fit adapters with O ring seals - spit on your fingers and wipe around the O ring as a lubricant - it should slide home a lot easier. 2. I'd be very tempted to mount the pump 'upside-down' - so the electrical part is above the water part. I'm going to suspect the reason for fail is water getting into the motor.

What does a $259 pump offer that a $69 one does not?

Longer spray on your hose; more pressure in your shower; less pressure drop when you decide to shower, wash your hands, flush the toilet, and do the dishes all at the same time.

@@Kineth1 Well after some research I now can answer my own question. You are100% correct. This is a variable speed pump with a self regulator. All that allows it to accomplish just what you said. Thanks for the help.
