My 2006 Subaru Forester MT/NA has been having big issues with power delivery. What started with a bad coil pack and a bunch of misfires, resulted in a destroyed downstream catalytic converter - so don't drive around with a misfiring engine. And this is most certainly whack because OEM costs $800+, not the cheapest part. I opted for a Bosal from Rockauto, and now I'm enjoying my life again. I think I may have even grown 3 inches taller, idk? _

Same, it lost power so slowly over time I never noticed. Now it feels like a racecar to me!

Hey man. Awesome vid. I might do this with my 11' because of same issues. However would I just be able to replace it with a straight pipe? Since there is still a cat in the front. Also wondering if that would increase performance. I should also mention that my forester is a PZEV model so it has that emissions stuff.

Yes and no -- you can personally do whatever you want, that's what a lot of folks do to increase the performance (although you'd probably need to pair it with a bigger intake and maybe even a tune). But usually it's not legal either -- you probably won't pass emissions/inspection without a catalytic converter.

I big cat killer on these Subarus is when the head gaskets blow, which they will if you have the crappy single layer head gaskets (almost every EJ-25 except turbos). They need to be replaced before about 100K miles or you'll end up with coolant and/or oil in your cat$$.

mine was idling rough/jerking/poor acceleration, had my coils/maf/plugs switched out which fixed the idling but still had flat spots in the low rpm when accelerating, I'm about to have my o2 sensors done so hopefully it runs normal after that I'm dreading my cat converter and barely drove my forester because of it lol expensive to service but I love those foresters so I feel justified spending thousands replacing parts haha

I got that converter off of Rockauto, $130. I'm sure it barely does anything, but so long as it passes inspection, who cares lol

About how long did it take for the entire process? About to do the same to my '01.

Unfortunately it depends. If you live in the rust belt, you can expect broken/seized bolts, so it may take 1-2 days if you don't have experience with that. If you do and have all the right tools, probably no more than 3 hours.

I just picked the cheapest one I could find tbh. I'm sure the cheaper you go the less effective it gets, but hard to justify big price tag for old cars. Just look at the photo, and compare it to what's actually bolted to your car. You can (and probably will gain that hp), but many states require them to pass emissions

Not sure what you're asking. Depending on how bad it's clogged, you'll feel some to no exhaust. Though if it's the latter, your engine probably won't run at all.
