Replacing a fan clutch on a 97-06 Jeep Wrangler with a 4.0 engine is a fairly easy task, but you can have trouble with the fan nut. (IF) you choose to NOT use a fan clutch tool, and use a pry bar or something to hold the water pump, be EXTREMELY careful to NOT break one of the tabs that bolt the belt pulley to the water pump. If you do, you'll be replacing the water pump too. If you're having issues with the fan nut, don't worry. All you need is some leverage. Use a cheater bar, and 9 times out of 10, it'll come loose. Good video sir, You should of used Emma to reset the fan back onto the pump.... This what I use Mistys hands for LOL

Yeah, smaller hands would've been helpful. But, she wasn't available, so....it's really not that bad of a job.

Hi watched the video, going through this right now. When you reinstalled you removed the pins from the tool. Was there a reason (torque, contact points, etc) or just showing another way to do it?

If you remove the Spring and it stays "engaged" permanently, is that ok to leave it like that permanently?

So I was going to do it and I know it’s a 4.0 engine becouse I looked up vins and numbers for the engine it’s self to double check bc I can also spot them just by the top like most people but it has a 2.5 clutch stem I think y is this
@ShockWaveOffroad
@ShockWaveOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
I dunno. The problem with any vehicle of this age, you never know who worked on them or what shady shit was done. That said, I've never worked on a 2.5. It's possible some parts are interchangeable. That's my best guess.

This looks like it was a pain. I definitely will take your advice and replace something like that while I've got it apart.
@ShockWaveOffroad
@ShockWaveOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
Nah, it wasn't that bad. Maybe just a terrible video.🤔 It's really a 30-40 minute job, assuming the fan nut comes loose fairly easily.

@@ShockWaveOffroad na the video is great. I was more talking about the funky looking specialty tool and tight spaces.
@ShockWaveOffroad

@@TheDrogoBoffin That tool can be a pain. But, I've used other methods in the past, and for as awkward as the tool is, it does (for ME), make the job a little easier. As for the tight spaces....confirmation that I SHOULDA done it last year when I had EVERYTHING apart!🤣🤣🤣🤣

Is there a way to tell if my clutch or electric fan are bad?
@summertimehighyt273
@summertimehighyt273 2 жыл бұрын
Aside from the clutch stopping with the engine
@ShockWaveOffroad
@ShockWaveOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
Well if you have an electric fan, you won't have a clutch. That said, if your set up looks like this one, you have a clutch. The easiest way to check if your clutch is bad is this: While your Jeep is cold, turn the fan by hand. It should turn freely and easily. Then drive it so that it comes up to full operating temperature and then turn it off. Try to turn the fan by hand again. If the clutch is good, it should be significantly harder to turn by hand. If it's still turns easily, it's a pretty good bet that your clutch is bad.

@@summertimehighyt273 Ok then, learn something new every day. Does the electric fan have a toggle switch, or is it wired to the temp sending unit?
@summertimehighyt273
@summertimehighyt273 2 жыл бұрын
@@ShockWaveOffroad It is wired to the temp sending unit. Looks like a mechanic did some rewire shenanigans with it as I recieved it from my parents(original owners) and they never touched it.
