All the little helpful hints were great, such as putting a nut BACK on ( slightly ) Before you start banging on it to slide out---so as to Not mushroom the end...Other strut videos the guys are hammering on the ends like crazy ! Jim was fortunate to have a LIFT, instead of working on the ground with a jack & stands, so he was able to use his HIP to install the lower strut bolts 1st, then reach up to get the top one started. Love the tip using a Big screwdriver to loosen the back seat hooks & keeping the integrity of the seat frame intact ( instead of bent ). These videos aren't worth a damn if those nuggets of gold aren't exposed for DIY'ers---thanks Jim for saving people loads of anger & frustration---over the hang-ups & pitfalls people encounter trying to save their hard earned money & do it themselves.

Now THAT'S a detailed video. I imagine a 2009 I have wouldn't be too different. Thank you for a the good video and thank you for not having an annoying background music like other videos. LOL. Also a good trick to hold the brake rotor is to lift it with a small jack and keep it there until you are done, this works good for DIY that don't have a large lift.

Good point about liking to tighten the 3 nuts up top with a ratchet to get a better feel for the tightness. The mechanic who installed my rears didn't do that. Now 6 months later there's lots of rattling from the rear deck as if the strut is going to fall off. I can actually yank on the coil spring and hear squeaking above it.
@stephenohluk2019
@stephenohluk2019 3 жыл бұрын
Experienced mechanics have tightened SO many nuts & bolts over the years, they go by " feel "---but I'm sure they should be using the proper torque specs---kinda makes me mad that they don't. I don't know how much MORE time it would take---this strut came out/in---much sooner than the hour they charge us for...you'd think they could use a torque wrench just for " anal " sake.

You make that look so easy. I also have a 2000 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder that all the struts and shocks need to be replaced. 21 year old struts and shocks. My driver side rear is leaking fluid. They probably all do. The Camry was given to me by my cousin. It was his father's Camry. I'm on a limited income. I have a friend that works at Advance Auto Parts he told me to buy Suncore struts and shocks. So I bought them. I don't know how good they are. Like I said you make that look so easy.

jimthecarguy thanks Jim for your response on your live stream! I did buy the quick struts! But because I did not have an impact gun it was extremely hard to remove to lower bolt on the strut. I was told to heat up the bolt to try and loosen up the bolt now. Unfortunately I did have to take it to a shop but was charged and extremely low price for them to put on the rear struts. 😉 . This week a good friend on mine has invited me to bring my car to his garage so I can use his air gun on the front struts. Thank you for all of your videos. I am learning a lot. Greg from Jackson,Wi.

Jim, I would like a little more advice along with this video, regarding an order of operations. I am replacing both front axles, lower control arms, tie rods, and struts on the front. On the back I am replacing the rear struts and rear track arms. This is on a 2008 Lexus ES350, I've got 270,000 miles on the car. A general website with the torque specs would be very helpful, because I don't have an air compressor with an impact. Thank you for your videos and the help they have given me! God bless!
