Very useful and informative video. I just did the rotor replacement and I can tell you that you definitely need the C clamp. Also I had to go out and buy a breaker bar for the 15 mm bolt. I have no pneumatic tools so it was necessary. Very easy if you have the right tools. Thanks for posting.

I'm a car guy and have done this same job myself many times before on my Explorers and Mustangs. @labarronnieva It may not work as well as it should if this is the case. If you can't get it to collapse all of the way with your clamp, you could also try to crack the bleeder while you try to collapse the caliper to see if that helps. If it does, then make sure you bleed the brakes one last time once everything is back together. Hope this helps you out.

This video is really good. I just changed front pads and rotor on my 2003 Ford Explorer. Pretty much the same except Caliper bolt needs 14mm wrench and bracket needs 18mm wrench. I also discovered when one of the bracket bolts wouldn't break loose that the Lug wrench is the same size and worked great to loosen the bolt. Also be sure to remove the cap on the brake fluid reservoir before attempting to push the pistons back in.

We currently do not have an auto repair video on this particular vehicle. The basic procedures should be fairly similar. We do carry the Haynes manuals on our website that would show you how to change them on your truck. Here's a link to them on our website. 1aauto.com/1A/repairmanual/Ford/F150-Truck/1AMNL00004/471626/2003?ATony

@Joeflo120 The AWD may have a slightly different setup however the basics should be the same as far as how to unbolt things, collapse the piston in the caliper and replace the rotor. Unless you crack the bleeders you shouldn't get air in the brake lines while changing a set of brake pads and rotors. If you have a hard or really soft pedal then it's may be a good idea to bleed the brakes a few times to see if there's any air in the lines.

@0scarsky Yeah you turn enough wrenches and you are bound to break the skin. Doing rakes on an ABS equipped vehicle is not different from a non ABS.. The sensors are not in any of the parts you remove during this procedure.

If you can't get the caliper back over the brake rotor you may have to compress the caliper in some more with a c-clamp. This will give you the extra clearance so that you can get the brakes back on.

Also, do you guys happen to have a tutorial for the hub/rotor assembly version? I guess on the 99 model of mine, there were two types. My rotors have the wheel bearings inside them. (old school) And I'm afraid they are going out as well as the brakes. I guess it's good in a sense that I'll hit it all in one job...But I haven't taken it apart yet and I don't know if it will be a simple swap and hang...or more importantly what all I will need to order to get the job done. I paid a "mechanic" last year to install front brake pads. This year when I turn right only about 20 mph or above im hearing squealing, and I thinknit comes from left side. What Im reading inline is the brake clips could have become. What side should I check (turn right sounds like left side squeal) From what I read online removing rotors require rrmoving an axle nut but not what im seeing in your video.

Thanks for checking us out. There could be multiple reasons why you're having this particular problem. We suggest taking your vehicle to a nearby reputable shop to identify the cause as we would not be able to determine that for you. For this particular application, it is not necessary to remove the center axle nut to remove the rotors. Hope this helps you out! +C. M.
