***** you do not have to remove the lower ball joint ***** Removing the 2 bolts on the strut brace is a lot easier. Trust me I just replaced one.

Is there a benefit to removing the ball joint versus removing the 2 bolts on the strut brace?

@@anotherperson956 removing ball joint could damage the ball joint boot. Not always, but it's possible. I typically loosen at the strut -13 years of being a professional mechanic.

@@anotherperson956 knocking the BJ out of the knuckle vs sliding the knuckle out the strut, the ball joint will be a lot harder to knock out

I like all of your videos, but in all fairness, this is a totally different job on the ground. I have done several of these in NY, on many Nissans with that support bearing and it could take all day fighting it out. You have far less leverage on the ground. The best way I have found to do them is to take the bearing support bracket out with the CV axle, support the housing and hit the Axle end with a 4 pound hammer. Using a penetrating oil does help as the shock from the hits helps it work its way in. The bracket is held on by 4 or 5 bolts.

I just got one like this, the thing is rusted at the bearing. Hit it so many times, decided to remove the bracket along with it but it won't come out as the exhaust is on the way. With the bracket loose, I will hit it away from the axle and hopefully it releases.

Hey 1A. Currently enrolled in an automotive college. and had to tackle this task today on my own personal vehicle. 2011 rogue AWD. We used a slide hammer and everything but that bearing would not release. we ended up having to take that whole assembly that the bearing slides into off, which included my exhaust coming off aswell. My instructor was astounded how hard it was to pop that balljoint out too! cussing up a storm just trying to get most of the bolts off in such a tight space, currently the car is still at the college campus, tomorrow we are tackling taking out the shaft from the support thing that the bearing is seized onto. Great informative video btw Did everything you said and most of it worked, except that stubborn bearing xD

I've done a few of these here in Massachusetts. I have never been able to get the carrier bearing out of the housing in the car as shown, even with heat. I have always had to remove the axle and housing together and then use a combination of sledge hammer, air hammer, and heat to get them apart on the bench. Good old road salt! To deal with this, you need to remove the eight housing bolts. Then, undo the two twelve mm nuts from the exhaust mount. Slide the mount off the studs. Pry the exhaust down as far as you can and stick a wood block or something in there to hold it down. At that point, you can just barely finagle the axle and housing out. Having a helper makes it easier.

Zach, which bolts did you remove to drop the exhaust? I see 3 nuts at the manifold and 2 on the subframe holding a bracket. After that it goes up, over the frame and back.

I just did mine, I had to take off the bolts attaching the spindle to the strut. It worked out fine.

Exactly. Remove the two strut bolts from the spindle pull down and slide axle out of spindle then from the trans. An no need to keep the support bracket on the engine as well unbolt and remove.

Had to watch. 2010 Rogue cv wouldn't come out, stuck bearing. Removed cv and bracket holding cv. Penetrating oil hasn't worked yet. Car is on ground. Also was wondering how to seat bearing if this hard to remove. Using a soft hammer to seat. Glad you had video showing tesl world replacement. Watched video yesterday, the mech said and showed, "just pull it out". Right. Well anyway thanks for a true video.

I'm surprised the bolts are 13mm and 18mm on a Nissan. Every other Nissan I've worked on used sizes like 14mm and 17 or 19mm. That was kinda weird. I would have definitely undone the strut rather than that ball joint

I have been trying for three days now to separate the bearing from the aluminum bracket. I've tried every combination of PB Blaster, heat, crow bar, slide hammer, impact hammer, screw drivers, etc. This thing will not let go. I even tried unlocking the housing to see if I could get the axle and housing out in one piece but that proved impossible with the exhaust and the sub frame in place. Any suggestions?

So, there is no rubber seal on the end, just the dust cap. So if I'm getting drops of fluid on my garage floor... what did I miss?? My installation went just like this. The bearing was seated correctly and flush.

There should be a rubber seal on the transmission. You didn't set the axle in all the way if you are getting leaks.

"At this point the axle should just slide out." Those things are ridiculous. The two most popular ways we do it at our Nissan dealership are to take the bracket out and use the press or torch on the bracket with an air hammer on the back of the axle.

When the axles need replacement so do lower control arms, swaybar links and struts, maybe more.

I replaced the seal that goes inside the transmission and it’s still leaking from that same area. Don’t know what else it could be. Any thoughts?

Try heating it up with a torch and applying pressure with a pry bar

@@JuanxMunoz The housing is aluminum. Not a good idea. I take the bearing support housing out with the axle and beating the axle out of it outside of the vehicle. You have much more leverage with it outside. The bearing support is is only held on by 4 or 5 bolts and you can take it out all together as one unit.

I'm no professional buy any means. But I would suggest to never use a wire brush near the opening of a transmission. Those bristles fly off and you most definitely don't want them inside your transmission.

I used Valvoline™ Full Synthetic CVT Continuously Variable Transmission Fluid. Picked it up at walmat for 8 bucks. I only needed 1/2 quart to top off my transmission.

For most who will struggle with this. This is the way. Combination of lots of heat on the front side. I used a camping propane torch for 5 minutes then smacked with the slide hammer right away and it came out easy. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNyBqthoppvVhaM.html

Those ball joints don’t come out that easy. Sometimes they can take awhile to get out.

What terrible example of this job. remove the strut bolts at the spindle. two seconds.. use effin power tools. why are u using ratchets? the car is on a hoist, if u were trying to show what its like in a backyard, do it in a backyard. lol looks like the bearing being stuck caught u by surprise hahaha you think a backyard guy that doesnt own power tools will have a cv joint adapter for a slide hammer, let alone an extension to make it even half usable for this vehicle? lmfao
