This whole repair gets easier if you use a "strut assembly" (strut and spring in one single unit).

That disassembly helped me to confirm the difference between the boot (insulator) and the disc (seat) above it for my xA. I can't see up inside there without taking it out and the Toyota part description/diagram did not help enough. Thank you

Awesome video! 👏🏼👏🏼 Quick question if you don’t mind. First time buying a pneumatic wrench and was wondering if a mini 500lb breakaway torqued one would do the job? Not sure if the size of compressor tank but it’s a pretty big stand up Craftsman if that helps any. I also ordered the regular sized one as well, it’s at 1,000lb breakaway torque. If the mini will work, it’s a little easier to get in certain angles. I’m doing the axels and maybe the rack and pinion as well. Thank you for any extra tips as your video provided a lot. 🙏🏼🤙🏼

Good video. I'm Old School and have replaced struts on many cars reusing springs. However be advised that spring breakage is common. Now I only install complete struts if available. Safer and new springs + struts restore suspensions better. Some cars do not offer aftermarket complete struts..... OEM complete struts are pricey. By the time you replace the suspension ( > 80 to 100k miles) most likely the car is nearing half life left. Economics plays a part deciding how much to spend on your ride.

Had to ask, you never mentioned the torque specs for the top Strut Nut and you didn't mention the specs for the Sway Bar torque, would you have those numbers by the way? I am getting ready to do mine on this coming Saturday 4-10-21. The video is so extremely helpful too thank you!!!!

Can you remove the top lock nut with a torque wrench ?or loosen it a bit b4 the strut comes out ?dont have an impact tool

Good video Just wondering why you did not replace the upper strut mounts? With that many miles, you might as well replace the strut mounts. By the way...what struts did you replace them with? Dealer replacements, Monroe or some performance strut? Also wanted to advise people to get a Torque wrench and make sure all the bolts are torqued to correct values. Hit the scion forums...there is always someone who has manual access. How did it ride?

i have sonata 2008 and not known history of strut changed ..mechanic says no need to change just keep on running unless any sound. but i am facing huge bump ..can you advise wether or not change the front shocks strut>

Scion XD has no upper tri-mounting bolts. I'm assuming you have to compress the springs on the car and remove the top strut mount bolt because the strut mount is held into the car by design. Very wierd. I've never seen this configuration before.

Would it be a good idea to put threadlock on those 108 ft-lb bolts?

Do you have to get an alignment after replacing the strut?

What a pain in the ass...when you don't know what you are doing (or follow instructions, I'm guilty of both). Hardest part for me was getting the stabilizer link 1:04 back on. Using the jack as instructed would have made that a non-issue. Also struggled with the strut bolt closest to the engine 2:17 on the driver's side. Another part is super close to the bolt making removal/replacement difficult even when you take off the lower windshield cover. 2008 Scion tc
