In this video I am showing how to properly remove and replace the rear trunk hatchback door lift support strut shocks on my 2005 Scion tC. This will also work on Scion tC 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Scion tC 2011+ will use very similar process as well.

Thanks for the video! Very simply explained and helpful. Just changed out my 2008 Scion TC...it required a bit more effort/elbow grease removing the old parts than shown here but overall the process was quick and (relatively) painless. Thanks!

I replaced my lift struts this past weekend after viewing this video and there are a few points i would add: 1 - I purchased lift struts at a local automotive parts store. With the struts i purchased there is no left and right but you do need to be mindful of the orientation of the mounting points for the lift struts. The ones I purchased were not oriented correctly and need to be twisted into the correct orientation to fit correctly. Additionally since they were new they were quite tight and need a vice to grip and twist to the correct orientation. Ideally you would do this BEFORE mounting to the frame (unlike me). 2 - Be mindful not to over torque the bolts when remounting the lift strut mounting bracket to the frame. You can snap the bolt if over torqued (like me) and then you will either have to leave it that way or drill it out and replace the bolt. 3 - The retaining clips on the retaining struts on both the old and new lift struts were VERY tight. I found a very small flat screw driver and a pair of needle nose pliers greatly aids with this step. When replacing you don't actually need to fully remove the clips. You only need to loosen it enough to clear the port where the ball joint fits (as shown at 2:38).

Thank you for this video, which made it seem easy for me to fix it. I'm tired of needing two people doing the job of one holding the trunk open while the other put in/take out groceries. Besides, that is a heavy trunk.

I take Amazon reviews with a grain of salt. Sometimes competing brands just leave each other negative reviews, sometimes reviews are fake and paid for. In general, if majority of reviews are good, I trust the product. Plus Amazon is always on your side if you ever need to return anything.

No, there is not much you can do wrong. Your new shocks are probably not strong enough. Is your trunk door is modified in any way that makes it heavier than normal?
