In this step-by-step video I explain how to replace Torquemaster Plus springs on a Wayne Dalton garage door. These garage door springs are very easy to replace when they break, and while some kinds of springs can be dangerous to work on, these are not. Save a bunch of money and replace broken springs yourself! The Torque Master Plus style of spring is in expensive, and only requires basic tools to replace. Don't risk ruining your garage door opener or your safety by ignoring broken springs.

Great how-to on replacing these springs. I have to applaud the Wayne Dalton engineers for making a counterbalance system that's much easier and safer to install and service. It may not be as durable as the traditional springs, but these are less expensive.

Thanks for the great video! I called techs and they wanted between$1300-$1600 to convert to torsion bar. They also said this was a bad design that doesn't last, but mine lasted 14 years, and it was only 1 spring that was actually broken. Paid just under $200 for springs including delivery. This video was better than paper instructions. My son and I took just over an hour and he finished the job with a high 5 and said that was satisfying!

Thank you! I had the first version, but this was still super helpful and motivating. The only issue I ran into was getting the sleeves out. Mine were practically glued in place, but I wound them up using needle nose pliers to twist and slowly yank them out. Afterwards, i trimmed off the damaged twisted parts but I could barely get my sleeves to go back in, but everything I read said they weren’t essential except for sound damping, so I trimmed them short when i couldn’t get them to go any further. Beyond that hiccup, it was pretty straightforward.

I just picked up my Torquemaster springs at my local Wayne Dalton distributer. For a 16ft x 7ft, 123 lb, 9000 series garage door. The new springs came in the tube. It came preinstalled in the metal tear drop 16 ft tube for $93 bucks. Makes the DIY job even easier! My previous springs lasted 6 years. I was getting quotes from $500 to $900, some contractors even suggesting to convert to torsion. 🤣

(yes, I stopped at 3/4) I was ready for the celebratory beer. Connected the pull bar and the garage door was working!!!! Until it did not go all the way up. It stopped like 3/4 the way up. Any suggestions on what was missed? @@AmplifyDIY

@@richs2860 Hmm... that's pretty odd. First, I'd close the door and disconnect the trolley. See if you can open it all the way by hand, checking the track for obstructions. If it opens and closes by hand properly, then I'd reconnect it and check the owners manual for your opener to see if you can re-set the open and close limits. The opener may just be confused.

I just replace mine today after parts arrive. Thanks for the tip with the gear cog, I made sure they did not fall down and get mix up. The instruction in the spring manual for the red and gray seem backward. But I just followed the color scheme and double check spring direction. Without this good ole boy tutorial videos I would have been paying the garage guy an 800 dollar estimate. I also found out at work that I'm not the only thats experience a broken spring. This is the first time for me and I'm an old man

Best video I've watched out of 5 so far! Incidentally, I was specifically looking for the mistake you made! When taking my left side off, the plastic gear fell out too, and I wanted to see if someone else had ran into it. Great job leaving that part in the video as I'm sure it will be helpful to anyone who does this on their own.

Thanks for the feedback! I like to share my mistakes for exactly the reason you mentioned: If I made that mistake, others certainly will as well. It only helps to show both the mistake and how to correct it. Thanks for watching!

@@AmplifyDIY just did it this morning with the help of my 10 year old. Only complication I ran into was the left spring was stuck and wouldn’t come out. Had to stick a bunch of long sticks from the other side and knock it out. Thanks for the video and the tips!

My Wayne-Dalton 16' x 8' Torquemaster Plus Left hand spring broke Mid-May 2020. Luckily my door would still open & close but it became apparent something was wrong. House is 7 years old. I found your video the best coordinated & concise repair process I've ever encountered here on KZfaq. You clearly & step-by-step covered the entire repair sequence. I found your list of sources and reference manuals to be absolutely accurate. I ordered replacement springs from your source & received the correct springs four business days later. Installation went well & my door is 100% functional once again. My thanks to your professional presentation. This is the 1st KZfaq video I've ever posted a comment on. Terrific Job!

Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. The fact that you made some mistakes, were able to talk and tell us about them was amazing. Many videos do not correct errors or do not talk about possible problems that I may run into. God bless you, keep going. BTW this is my first comment that I post.

Thank you, THANK YOU, T H A N K YOU! For your video, it's very well done. I didn't know an internal spring assembly existed on home garage doors until my son-in-law and daughters broke. 😡 Now I get to replace the springs at my daughter's home and help them save a few bucks. Did I say...THANK YOU!
