GET NEW CAB LIGHTS HERE: amzn.to/2qdkFpQ
i am replacing broken led light bulbs of the cab lights on my 96 dodge ram 1500, discussing the 12v hyperflashing problem
Hi everyone, this is geramicc85
today i am going to replace the LEDs of these recon aftermarket chrome look roof lights.
I Installed these lights about 3 years ago and now two off the lights started to hyperflash. When i installed the new lights back then i was told that LEDs last about 50.000 hours. Now i was wondering why these two didnt. Im aware of the fact that it also depends on the quality of the leds that are used but since the lights are produced by recon i dont think they are that bad of quality, please correct me if im wrong. By the way they are supposed to be clear chrome lenses and look at them now. The lense got all yellowish and stuff, i dont really like how they look anymore but i dont wanna buy new ones either. If you are considering buying recon cab lights i guess its good that your watching this so you know what you are actually purchasing.
Well back to the LEDs. I dont want to replace them all the time. Usual car LEDs should work at 12 volts. but sometimes the alternator puts out more lets say like 13 or 14 volts. if you buy LEDs make sure they can take more then just the 12 volts. good quality leds can have a volt range for example from 12 to 18 volts and maybe dont start hyperflashing and breaking. In this case i am going to install these t10 SMD LEDs that can take up to 24 volts just to make sure they can take the voltage the alternator is providing. There for i am using a normal phillips screw driver and take out the two screws that are holding the cab light. I take off the lense and pull out the rubber bulb holder from the bottom. Now i am replacing the old LED with one of the new 24 volts SMD LED. Before i put everything back together i make sure to test if it has the right polarity of if i have to turn the LED by 180 degrees. This one works fine. So i can put it back on by sticking the LED into the lense and giving it a little turn. I just have to secure the cab light onto the roof with the screws and thats it.
Here you see the two different LEDs in comparison. The right one is the new SMD LED that can take up to 24 volts, the left one is one off the 12 volt recon led. 2 out of 5 of the provided recon leds broke sooner then 3 years after purchasing. Even tho the new 24 volt leds are not as bright, i can live with them as long as they dont start hyperflashing all the time cuz i got other things to do then changing out broken LEDs all the time that are supposed to last 50 thousend hours.
