Adding the updated PCV system is recommend when possible to prevent sludge and excess oil burning/blow-by. You can change the oil fill, and remove the PCV valves on the heads, then the new system is a direct fit with the updated tubes. This was part of the factory's update to address sludge and oil burning. Heat is also the enemy of these 4.7's keeping them cool and breathing goes a long way to extending their service life. I have 3 4.7's including one HO I'm installing in a 02 Jeep, the previous one failed due to heat, lack of PCV (sludge) and an improperly functioning power steering driven cooling fan. any one of or a combination of all 3 issues are what kill 4.7's more often than not, provided the oil is changed regularly during its life. Keep 'em cool and clean inside, they last forever with proper maintenance performed regularly!

Always quality content from Martin. I was actually searching for your video about the PCV upgrade and found this video. My 4.7L WJ is leaking oil onto the Y-pipe and I need to get it fixed. I thought is was the valve covers, but I'm starting to think I have an oil leak in the PCV system. I replaced both valve cover gaskets a while back (very carefully) but they still leaked. At least I thought it was the valve covers...

@@martinbuilt Maybe you can help me a little bit further. I have an 4.7L Aspen that was a no start; so far Ive replaced the the alternator, battery, spark plugs and coils. Now it starts, runs, but sometimes in cold start dumps a massive amount of a white smoke, until I put it into drive, and then will idle forwards but dies as soon as I touch the gas or hit the slightest bump. I have a slight tea color in the new air filter so I'm thinking it might be the pcv valve but I'm also getting a code for the crankshaft position sensor and random misfires in all cylinders. My question is do you think I should start with the pcv valve? On one occasion I removed the air filter to spray ether into it and there was actually white smoke inside the airbox, so I suspect it's choking off the oxygen in the combustion chamber. Im an Uber driver living in my truck currently and can only drive when it goes into limp mode, so if ever it stops revving to 4200rpms in idle and then goes to 2500, it will then work without stalling or white smoke but will revert to non-driveable condition as soon as restarted. Unfortunately sometimes it won't enter limp mode and just keeps dying

Hey Martin! So I have a quick question... I have a 99 Jeep WJ with the 4.7L, and out of curiosity I pulled off the two hoses on the back of the cylinder heads for the PCV system, while the engine was running, and I felt no pressure what so ever coming out of either of them. I'm personally used to older engines with valve cover breathers that smoke, indicating the release of crankcase pressure, however none on this one. Is this Normal? Sorry for the long question, but much appreciated!

Hey MartinBuilt Can you make a video for replacing the: crankcase breather hose assembly on a 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L V8 Part number: 94364GB I can't see what kind if connectors the hose elbows connect to back there. The middle one connects to the resonator air box on the driver side and two connect in the back down behind the hood. My WJ is 21 years old and I've broke several plastic tubes and connectors related to the PCV valve and breather tube due to it being very hard and brittle. I'm afraid to yank it off and find the connectors are plastic that break on removal even with Blaster silicone spray

According to my dealer, my 2006 Commander 4.7 requires a very expensive metal PCV valve that looks very different than yours. I'm guessing that it supersedes the cheaper plastic valve that you are using, possibly due to reliability issues. In fact, the dealer advised me that this metal valve covers most Chrysler products from 2002 to current, including the Viper!

could be leaky injectors and it is flooding the engine and then drys out after a while. 🤔 I hate when it doesn't give you a code. 🙁 Currently dealing with a running rich situation with no codes. 🤬

Fuel pump and filter failure are common on these, cold start will be OK, but a hot start might drag on forever trying to start or not at all, if fuel pressure isn't over 45 pounds (normal hot and cold is 52) 50-55 psi average. If fuel pressure bleeds off after a key on/key off cycle, or after cranking the engine for a few seconds, the regulator in the tank fails to achieve and hold approx. 50 pst fuel pressure, the unit(s) are failed, and the regulator in the fuel filter isn't enough. This is why I change both, pump assy. and filter at the same time, both regulators work in concert. Fuel pressure is the biggest issue with a long-hard start especially hot, when there are no codes and the Crankshaft Position Sensor is verified to be working correctly. My '99 JGC had that issue last month. A new Wix filter and Delphi pump solved it 100%. I had NO codes before changing the pump, a fuel pressure test revealed the issue and verified the repair.
