Today I show you how to replace rear pads and rotors on a Volvo XC90. This car has a rear electronic parking brake that usually needs a scanner to be able to retract them. I show you how to do this without a scanner the easy way enjoy!

**BEST VIDEO** on this I could find. I followed his step-by-step directions and everything worked perfectly. I, unfortunately, had to use NAPA parts vice OEM - recommend planning ahead (our Volvo dealership parts dept is closed on Sat / Sun). NOTE: I did receive a fault/error "PARKING BRAKE NOT FULLY RELEASED" when I first started the car (2018 XC90 T6 Momentum). I could not get it to clear so disconnected the battery for 10 min and reconnected and the issue was resolved. Thank you for making a great/accurate video.

EXCELLENT for the guy who doesn’t do this but is mechanically inclined. Only thing got me nervous is when I ratcheted the caliper plunger OUT (was feeling it out) it wouldn’t stop and then it wouldn’t go back in- Let them know to squeeze pressure on it whilst they begin the ratchet and it’ll start pulling in. Secondly I think taking that yellow clip off and pulling the motor power is easier before taking the shroud off. But your method of explaining is absolutely nice and elementary as we need it. Keep up the good work

Great work. Why do not you use the center display settings to tackle removing the electronic brake motor?

As far as this model Volvo for the US spec didn’t give me any options on the display screen, and it wasn’t supported by my scanner so I did it the manual way

There is a function on the dash screen to disengage the automatic emergency brake. I did that and then proceeded to remove the caliper without removing the electric emergency brake as you did. And rather than compress the piston I turned it, as there are two divots that are intended for that. Perhaps turning allows you to bypass the removal. In any case the emergency brake still works after pushing the button, and I reactivated the auto feature on the dash screen. Also I didn't remove the caliper pins, but cleaned them after removing that piece of the caliper. Not sure if I took shortcuts, but I am confident with the job.

Great video however you created a curious thought in someone mind as to why you didn’t finish showing how to complete everything. I would think you would have a second video. @TheEnthusiastMechanic
@TheEnthusiastMechanic 7 ай бұрын
Hey, thank you for watching and subscribing. I definitely appreciate it! I always say the year in the intro when I mention what I’m gonna be doing on the car in the video. The reason why I don’t mention what model years this process is the same on is because I cannot foresee what the manufacturer is going to do for the next model year. They may completely change something so the video can only be as relevant as the time they are filmed there’s no way to know if Volvo‘s going to use the same brake set up for five years or 10 years and so on . The video is complete unfortunately it’s not going to be a step-by-step guide. I do work in a shop where these vehicles do have time frames to get back to the customers so I film a start to finish video with as much information as I can to show you how to do the job at home . Unfortunately I’m not gonna be showing me loosening up every single bolt that’s gonna make for a very lengthy video, which more than likely people would not like to watch. Plus sometimes it’s very hard to get a camera in a certain angle to show something in those scenarios. I explain it as best as I can. I hope this helps with a few questions that you had have a great day!
