New Shock Absorber from 1AAuto.com 1aau.to/ia/1ASH...
Shock absorbers help your vehicle stay stable and safe. Signs of worn out shocks are knocking or bumping noises, loose handling, or a bouncy or bumpy ride. The typical service life of a shock absorber is 50,000 miles, depending on conditions. TRQ shocks and struts are engineered to fit your vehicle perfectly. This video shows you how to install shock absorbers on your 2006-12 Toyota RAV4.

Did this along with the front struts this weekend. Thanks for the video it was helpful. The only thing I’d add is to go ahead and break the bottoms shock nut loose while the bracket is still on the car, it makes it easier for those without impact tools. On that note, I did both front and rear with just regular hand tools no problem. If you have a lot of rust you may want to spray some penetrating lube on ahead of time but totally doable with basic tools. Took about 6 hours for front and rear.

The same engineer must of designed that as well as the location of the PCV valve on a 2009 RAV4 2.5 liter.

I just did the rear shocks today in my home garage. I had no overhead lift, just a bottle jack and jack stands...it was hell. Total time with just hand tools was right about 2 hrs 45 min. The biggest problems were the first upper shock bolt, and the second lower shock bracket. Those three bolts probably cost me an hour +. Only other thing to note is there is no way to get my torque wrench on the upper bolts, must be a special tool for that. Thanks for the video.

You would pay the dealership $600 to do both rear shocks.

03:17 wondering how you managed to torque the bolt in such a tight place??. I used my muscles only and really hope that Toyota fired the engineers who designed this😀.

I'm watching this after doing the job, that top bolt is a real pain in the A$$! The lower one i cut it in half and replaced it by putting it in the other direction. I didn't realize there was a removable bracket. My bad.

Thanks for the video. I was told by mechanic that they have to go through the rear cab to get to upper shock mount? I have a 2011 Toyota RAV4 AWD. Any help would be great…..thanks

unfortunately because the location of the upper bolt and nut, you cannot access it unless the car is lifted on an elevator jack. Using a floor jack that most of us have , this can NOT be done in the garage, because upper bolt and nut are impossible to reach with the 2 wrenches.. So you end up in an auto shop which will remove the old shocks and install THEIR ( priced) NEW shocks. With parts and labor you will end up paying around $450 . This video is only useful if you have an elevator jack

This is why mine is in the shop right now instead of me trying to do it on the floor.

East or West Coast ! When I was in the Air Force station either on the East Coast or the West Coast working in the structural repair shop, I would tell technicians to not take any more rivets off the skin of the aircraft than necessary. A lot of aircraft would corrode from the inside out do the salt Air from the ocean. Sad but true!

Wrong, no need to remove that lower part, my mechanic said just remove the bolt at bottom of absorber. Why do more work than nessarary? Work smarter not harder.

Should be a warning about the upper bolt. I bought a 17mm ratcheting flat wrench and there is not enough clearance to get anything on to the nut head. So I bought replacement shocks for nothing. What crappy design: as an amateur, you used to be able to do almost anything on your car.
