Good eye that you caught that. The Dayco belt is fairly new but I have been having a squealing problem when accelerating. I tried adjusting the tension but it didn't help. So I decided to try the Nissan belt and the noise did lessen but sometimes I still hear some, so not quite sure at this point. Also trying this didn't cost a whole lot. Maybe I have a bad idler pulley. Will see.

That rate is about the same for my local Nissan dealer. If you have never done belts before, the only thing that can get tricky is adjusting the tightness of the belt. So before removing the old one, twist it with your finger and get a feel of how tight it needs to be. I know it's not exact but gives you an idea of what it needs to be.

The belt tension tool is the Krikit II. The cordless drill driver I used is not impact but was used to speed up removing the lugs after I already broke it loose with a breaker bar.

Great video - I am going to replace this belt on my wife's 2004 Quest this weekend. It is starting to squeal after 202,000 miles. It was replaced once previously by Nissan - but they really botched it,. A real horror story I don't want to repeat. I prefer to do the work myself and know it was done right.

A guy told my mother in law. She needed a alternator for her 2007 Nissan Murano. The car set up for almost 2 months. I got bored an decided to take a look. How about the belt was gone. The alternator was like $170 something an he was gone charge her $125. I’m debating to go knock on his door an feed him to an alligator. Especially after seeing how easy this was. Thanks man 🙌🏾

Awesome video, great coverage of the items as well. Just have one question, wondering why you check the tension on belt before tightening the idler ? Is there a reason to that or is that just your preference? I would have thought to tighten the idler first prior to checking tension as that may add more tension to belt.
@dial2fast
@dial2fast 9 жыл бұрын
If you tighten the idler first, then you won't be able to adjust the tension. To change the tension, the idler must be loosened, then adjust the adjustment nut up top.

1st off great video & description. I feel like I can change a belt by myself now. 2nd Took my Quest to AutoZ for free diagnosis they said the Battery was good & Alternator was not getting a charge. Two weeks ago there was a lot of squealing, last week on vacay we used the a/c alot! Is it most likely a belt or alternator problem? I don't want to go to the mechanic and they just automatically throw out an alternator price to me. Thanks for any advice you can give.
@dial2fast
@dial2fast 8 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say one or the other, but those tester they use to test the alternator should be accurate. If your alternator is having problem, then it will have a hard time charging your car battery and operating the car while you are driving. Take it to a reputable shop and get it checked out.

@dial2fast
@dial2fast 10 жыл бұрын
I have not worked on that, but I have looked into the HVAC of the Quest and the problem may be the 'Rear Air Mix Door Motor'. That motor moves a flap that routes either cold or hot air. I can tell you that if the problem lies with the rear air mix motor, you will have to access the rear interior trim panel to get to it. I don't have details to the exact location. You will need to research it or get a hold of the Nissan service manual.

The belt is squeaking sometimes when we turn the AC on. We tried belt conditioner and it works for several days but the squeaking sound came back. Now we tried to replace the belt but we can't seem to fit the socket wrench to loosen the bolt and then the bolt strips with a regular wrench. What would be our next step since the bolt is stripping?
@dial2fast
@dial2fast 10 жыл бұрын
If the bolt is stripping and being in such a tight space, you should take it to a shop and have them work on it. You don't want to make it any worse to a point where the shop will charge you many hours to get it off.

Hi, i need some advise on my nissan van, i took my van to a shop to get the serpentine belt changed, it was squeaking when i ran A/C, well after they serviced it, it was making the same noise even louder, took it back so maybe they could adjust belts, same thing still, so 3rd time he finally got it to stop the noise, that was amonth ago , now its sqwealing from the power steering, does one have to do with the other????? my husband is in the military so i have to handle it myself, just want a honest days work for some honest day pay, If you know what i mean
@dial2fast
@dial2fast 9 жыл бұрын
The Nissan Quest only has 2 belts. The serpentine belt I showed in this video is the bigger belt and it's routed onto your alternator, ac compressor, and crank (engine). There is a smaller belt back towards the firewall of the car that drives the power steering. Typically the power steering belt will last longer than your bigger belt, but depending on mileage, it does need to be serviced. It's difficult to check the condition of the power steering belt unless you get underneath the vehicle. Both belts can be adjusted for proper tension, but if the belt is old and it's squeaking, then it should be replaced (not adjusted) as it eventually may break. Try to figure out which belt has been changed in the past and find a shop that is knowledgeable and honest.

Good job, thank you ! Where can I order one of those belt-tension measure device?? How much?? And where do I get a spec for correct belt tension?? One more thing, I have infiniti FX 45/ 2004, I want/will change rotors and brakecalipers in a front, for newer model, 2007, where there is 2 pistons in a caliper. Are you happy with rotors, like you have?? Where did you buy them, on line? I will buy black rotors, with holes, just like yours ! and will paint brake calipers also black =) Thanks, youtheman !!!

+Eero Laukkanen I bought that belt tension device many years ago on Amazon. For spec, you will need to find the Nissan service manual on the internet. You have to dig around to see if you can find one. I have several videos on changing rotors/ brake on my Nissan. For the past several years, I have been using Brakemotive rotors/pads from Ebay. Slotted and drilled, love the price and performance.

knowledge knows a 1/2 inch of play in the belt is enough. Been working on cars since 1976 on my first Nova and my dad before me, we dont use belt tension testers lmao

Need to know the length of the extension socket you used, was it 10 in?
@dial2fast
@dial2fast 7 жыл бұрын
I believe it was a 3" extension and an 11" extension together. So i had a 14" extension to reach the top nut.

Thank you for replying. Btw I have a nissan quest 2004 and I just changed my break pads and soon my serpentine belt. I really like how detailed and clear your explanations. I can tell you spent a good time to make quality videos . I subscribed. Thank you again.

Another great video, but...how bout that PS belt?
@dial2fast
@dial2fast 7 жыл бұрын
The PS belt is way back by the firewall. It's more difficult to do that one if you are using jack stands.

Can you loosen the idler pulley too much? The bolt on top?
@dial2fast
@dial2fast 9 жыл бұрын
You can, but you just loosen it until the pulley has enough slack to remove the belt. The whole bolt should not need to come out.

When I went in to get a belt, the guy at O'Reily's gave me two belts? does your vehicle have two belts? BTW I love your instruction though, perfect...I am just concerned about that extra belt?
@dial2fast
@dial2fast 8 жыл бұрын
This van has 2 belts. The bigger serpentine belt, and a smaller power steering belt on the back side by the firewall. If you go underneath you will see it. You should check to see if it needs changing. The power steering belt usually last much longer. Also the ps belt is a pain to replace as the serpentine belt must come off first.

thank you so much for that info dial2fast! I sure appreciate that information. You do give instruction very clearly and well...I kind of hoped though after viewing this...was I wish you showed how to change both of them..haha.. But thank you for the info on the serpentine...I think that's the one is giving problem...funny it squeals only when the AC unit is put on...I hope it's the belt and not the AC unit itself. Thank you Sir!

@dial2fast
@dial2fast 10 жыл бұрын
The power steering pump is behind the serpentine belt by the firewall so you will need to jack the car up.
