replacing bolt serpentine belts on a 2008 Nissan Quest 3.5l V6 minivan. This process is the same for many other Nissan vehicles. The only difference on the Quest is the separate power steering belt.

Belt requires a specific tension, the “tensioner” on the v6 Nissan quest is not self adjusting. Spec is 200 lbs using a gates belt tensioner tool.

I have a few tensioning tools, but never use them. The last time i used one was to set the exact tension on a DOHC lotus timing belt.

The first bolt you loosen with 14 mm underneath, mine is stripped. Any ideas on what I can use to remove it. And what is it actually connected to

@@TheGaginator I am not able to fit any low profile ratchets only wrenches. Have taken it to a few places they refuse to work on it. I have to loosen that bolt to replace the ps belt it is shot.

My 2008 does not have the adjustment rod on the tensioner on the main serp belt. Any suggestion on how to lessen it to replace the belt?

It HAS to have a tensioner rod. Possibly it has a spring loaded tensioner?

@@TheGaginator you re correct. It was supposed to have and the rod. I bought it used from a mechanic who had replaced the motor with a used one. He did as little as possible to the replacement motor, however, he did take the time to weld, yes, weld the idler in place. No idea how he got the belt on. I replaced it all.

I see this is old, but same thing happened to me. No clue how it was rigged up. But the alternator died after owning my van 4 months now. I had to replace the pulley assembly. Someone somewhere knows the trick!

Good morning so I replaced both of the belts and Pryor to changing them the power steering belt was busted I replaced both belts and now once again the power steering belt (small belt) broke again. Do you know why that would happen again Im looking at the belt right now and there’s no cracks on it or nothing. Is their something I did wrong This is 3 months after I’ve changed them both and busted again . Any answers for a diy mechanic like myself? Thanks in advance sir Hopefully you get back to me

The possibilities are: Belt too tight idler bearings going bad bent brackets power steering pump going bad
