My DVL-919 won't play the B-side of a LD, or rather it starts up and immediately sticks and repeats a short clip. So I have to get up and turn the disc over like a common troll. With this information, I'm going to replace the belt while I'm in there, and look to see if I can tell what the problem is, possibly just lubrication. So thanks very much for the intro to the innards of the machine. Here's an idea for something else you might like to report on: Super Audio CDs. They're still out there! I have a Sony DVP-CX995V that plays them fine. It's had the belts replaced.

The B-side repeat is a common problem with the 909/919. I had a 909 repaired for the problem (when Pioneer still had service for them) and it has gone out again. My 919 developed the problem before the belt went bad. I finally got around to finding some replacement belts (Pioneer has discontinued them from their parts catalog). If you figured out the skip/repeat problem I would appreaciate and tips.

Makes me wonder, if the 909/919 player ins black were US/NTSC only. I'm searching for a black model sind "ever" and never saw one with a 220V PSU/PAL/Scart. May be it's easier to import just a player from the staates or stick to my champagne 909 🙂 Great video!

I’d love to have some help with a Pioneer cld-m403. Similar issue, but the tray is supposed to lower down to read the laserdisc but it doesn’t want to lower or lift on it own without some help.

It's funny, when I was first shopping for the DVL range I noticed a lot of exterior similarities between the exteriors of the players, and I couldn't help but wonder if the same was true in the rest of the line. Thanks for letting me know!

have the same LD, do you know what could be the reason that when playing a movie it goes into a repeat loop? its usualy 5 seconds everytime reducing time more and more

Unfortunately I'm not sure about that one :/ If you have a facebook account though, there are a lot of really good people to ask in the forums, especially "Laserdisc Forever!" Enthusiasts and technicians alike tend to hang out on there, and may be able to help.

Great video. Gonna try this on a 909 and hopefully solves the problem. I also get a loud grinding noise when skipping a chapter forward, any advice?

Good luck with the 909, hopefully it gives many more years to you :) as for the grinding it's hard to say, ive had similar noises from some LD players and kind of wrote it off as the player sounding that way. Does it act funny when you skip chapters?
