Another great video Hilton. I agree with you that the matt finish wood trim is far nicer. My XF has the matt and I love it! Take care and keep making your great videos.

Thanks for the informative video once again Hilton. I haven't got any problems in that area yet, but I may well just put in one strip of led lighting along that trim. It is a pre face-lift model, that may be all I need. I look forward to seeing the ambient lighting going in. Take care, Jeff

Hi, Thanks for all these videos on jags they are very helpful. I have got x260 xf r and there is no power folding mirrors option. If you can do a video on installation of power folding mirrors.
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Billy. I'm afraid I don't have an X260 anymore so doing a video would be difficult. Changing the mirrors to folding would mean changing the switches on the driver's door as well as changing both mirrors with mirrors that actually fold. You could probably get the parts from a breaker's yard but they would still be pretty pricey. These guys know what new parts cost now so they milk every cent. 😉

Hello Hilton. How are you doing? I hope all is good with you. As usual, great informative video easy to follow instructions. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to this vehicle. Now, off subject what do you make of Jaguar's new line of engines? Thanks again
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much 🤗. I'm not sure if you watch TFL on KZfaq. But they recently bought a Defender with Jaguar's new 2.0L engine in it and the engine failed with just 400 miles on it. Now they have the 6 cylinder, yup, that new inline 6 which Jaguar aims to fit to the new XJ hybrid and we'll see how reliable that engine is. The problem with new engines is not just the engines themselves, but all the ancillary parts that fit into them such as coolant hoses, alternators, water pumps, a/c compressors, power steering motors and electricals. These new parts often create new problems for manufacturers and customers alike. I would hold off a couple of years before buying a car with these new engines until Jaguar has all the links worked out from the warranty claims that will ensue. 😉

Great video once again Hilton - this question is unrelated, but in your x250's have you had the power to the radio & touch screen turn off instantly when you turn off the engine? It works like that for me and its always been a bit strange, for example on keyless Fords it only cut the power if you left the car. Can't find anything for it in the settings menu either 🤔
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 3 жыл бұрын
Yep. It's totally normal. Jaguar do it so you know the radio is off before you leave the car. I'd be more concerned not it stayed on after turning the engine off. My X260 would turn the sound off the moment I opened the door. You can still turn on the sound for 3 minutes with the ignition off before the car complains. These cars are battery heavy so they are designed to save power wherever they can. 😉
@iLoveTheseRemoras
@iLoveTheseRemoras 3 жыл бұрын
@@carfanfan Ok I see. The other keyless ones I've driven only shut the radio power when the driver's door was opened, I'd prefer that logic really as I often like to listen to the current track until the end, or otherwise listen to the music if I'm waiting for something etc. That way you also know it's turning off, when it happens as you open the door.

Hi Hilton. Question about the stop/ start on your car. Is that enabled by default like on a lot of other cars I've seen ? If so is there a defeat device you know of ?
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, my XFR doesn't have stop/start thank goodness. I hated that function on my X260 and it became habit to turn it off the moment I started each time, especially since we live in a hot climate the and the a/c gets warm each time the car turns off at stop lights. I have read on the forums that some guys have managed to by-pass the stop/start function, but it requires a technician with an OBDII scanner who knows what he's doing.
@pauljohnston712
@pauljohnston712 3 жыл бұрын
@@carfanfan Thanks for that, obviously I wasn't paying enough attention. Wouldn't have a measurable effect on an XFR's fuel consumption anyway. My last experience of stopstart was driving an E-pace on a jaguar experience day when it cut out as I'd come to a stop at a roundabout. Confused the hell out of me. Not running the air-conditioning is also preventing me considering hybrids, very few run auxiliaries in full electric mode. Air-conditioning is a must for me too.

Hey Hilton...I really enjoy watching your Jag vids. I have a 3.0 V6 supercharged XF. My buttons are also looking a bit tacky (Bought the car second hand 1 owner). how much did it cost you for the new buttons? thx
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you live in SA, but I paid R1,200 for the buttons along with the wood trim which I didn't need, so I just unscrewed them from the wood trim and transferred them over.

I'm about to clean my switches due to the tacky feel to them. I thought the logo was moulded into the switch as they light up. If that is paint how are they illuminated? I thoughtnit was from behind the button?
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Roy. They are actually see-through icons that have a white see-through paint which allows them to light up at night. The paint is so thin that it comes off very easily. You can rub over them to get the sticky stuff off, as long as you are not going with the direction of the paint. That's why the letters don't come off so easily, but the icons for power, lock and unlock do. What I do is clean the edges off first then do the icons last and it helps if you heat it up a little with a heat gun or blow dryer.

Thanks for the reply Hilton, I've just tried cleaning the eco button now, that's the one I use most as I switch it off everytime I drive the car. I borrowed some Garnier Micellar cleaning water my wife has for makeup removal. Interestingly it seems to work like WD 40, but I think she is going to stick with the Garnier product..... The eco button I'd broken up the coating, so it needs to all come off that button. The other buttons I've cleaned with a wipe over of this Garnier product. Seems to have reduced the tacky feel leaving the probably intended ruberised feel Jaguar were trying for. Time will tell.

@carfanfan 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nathel. How ya doing? I know there is a spray glue one can use to stick it on again, but it means pulling all the fabric off first and that bares the risk of tearing it. It would be easier to get one from a salvage yard from another car. The other challenge is that the windshield needs to be removed in order to get the old one out and the new one in. PG glass could do this for you for a price but they could break your windshield, another risk. But if they break it I'm sure insurance would cover it. Just check with them. Also, when fitting the windshield back, often they don't use enough sealant and it leaks which can cause your leather dash to start bubbling or coming loose. Just something to watch out for 😉

Is this part made of real wood or just plastic with wood texture?
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 11 ай бұрын
All real wood used in cars (even Rolls Royce) are made from a thin veneer of wood that is glued to a plastic part. And yes, the Jaguar's have real wood in them. Later models got open pore wood which is not glossy. The glossy wood you see in most Jaguars is coated with a clear coat to protect it similar to the clear coat on the paint of a car. This coating can crack over time in the sun, so open pore wood is better to have in a car. Manufactuers like Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Toyota and Ford are just plastic wood and one can see it very easily.

Hey James. I'm afraid you can't get it loose. You have to replace the entire silver console. They are fairly reasonable as used items on eBay. And not that difficult to replace either.

Do you know how to replace push start button
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 3 ай бұрын
You must remove the center console to get the start button out. The panel on which the gear selector is situated must be removed and then the start button can be replaced. I would just swap the whole selector panel out with a salvage one. Much easier. Less fuss.
