How to Replace the Fuel Tank Pressure FTP Sensor on BMW i3 Models with REX Range Extender

BMW i3 models with a range extender have a small gas engine and a small fuel tank to increase vehicle travel distance from 150 miles to 200 miles per charge. Inside the range extender fuel tank is a fuel tank pressure sensor. BMW states the sensor is a combination pressure and temperature sensor, however I have only seen pressure sensors installed on these models. Always confirm with the latest parts information. The internal seals inside the sensor fail over time and will set related fault codes.
Today we’re working on a 2017 i3 with a range extender and it has the following stored fault codes. I’ve already tested the sensor and it is faulty, so let’s see how to replace it.

The parts are VIN specific. You will want to use your specific vehicle info when ordering parts.

GREAT VIDEO, HOW DID YOU TEST THE PRESSURE SENSOR? DOES A BASIC SCANNER TEST THE SENSOR OR IS IT MORE COMPLICATED? ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

You can test the sensor using an advanced scan tool, like out iSCAN sf. Tank pressure with the fuel filler cap removed should match ambient pressure.

Any info on the recalibrating of the sensor available?

We hear most techs do not need to calibrate it here in the US. We don't currently have that video. If necessary, it is done via ISTA using iSCAN IMS2 connection.
